I’ve has this amp for about 15 years. It has more than enough power and sound for my purposes. I haven’t been using it lately, but when I went back to it this month, it has a loud buzz. What causes that? It has been kept in a safe, climate-controlled house, and has been carefully driven around only about ten times.

I’m bringing it to East Bay Audio Repair in Berkeley, CA tomorrow. They were recommended by Guitar Center when I had them fix the electronics in my Höfner.

For those here who know what to look for when an amp screams buzzy, what can I expect?

Nothing plugged in?
Did you try another room and circuit?

It is possible that the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply need to be be replaced.

It's not a terribly complicated circuit, and nothing too esoteric if memory serves. EBAR should be able to properly diagnose what ails it.

FWIW, my gk backline 110 has always had more of a buzz than I thought it should, but it's been a great amp otherwise

I can think of about 20 or 30 possible causes.

Guessing results in incorrect assumptions and conclusions.

That’s why you want to use a QUALIFIED service tech, that way you can eliminate the guessing part. Once the actual cause is identified, the solution is generally pretty straightforward.
