How do I count these measures?

Had a college band director back in the day that stressed breaking every syncopated rhythm into straight 8th notes. In other words, look at every measure and feel (and count) straight 8th notes, perhaps with a metronome. For some reason tapping it with my finger over and over until I can be...

    "A" string intonation

That's folks. I will try all these. The main issue is intonation but it still seems that A is slightly different in brightness. I will go check out some other basses. I tried it and helped! Thanks very much. One problem seems that if I cut the string too short it's harder to wind it lower on...

    "A" string intonation

Haven't seen the post but I may just be a doofus and not navigating the site properly.

    "A" string intonation

Hey folks, I hope I can get some advice. I play a Fender Jazz bass. I love the bass but lately I have been having intonation problems, particularly with the A string (and a lessor amount on the E) and especially with the first 4 or 5 frets. I took it to a reputable guy and he said that it is...

    Double Bass DB Bridge Placement

Thanks man. Didn't mean to imply musicians don't have egos. Just that the egos seem mostly in check when people offer free advice. I'll check out LA Bassworks next time I'm down there.

    Double Bass DB Bridge Placement

Thanks Steven. I will try that. Still not sure why the bridge got moved over. Maybe a bump or perhaps just digging in pulled it over in time. Need to pay more attention...for such a large instrument they are delicate little things.

    Double Bass DB Bridge Placement

Thanks Don. I decided to quit worrying so much about the bridge feet being perfectly balanced between the f holes and took your advice to just move the bridge over so that it is aligned on the fingerboard. (Not sure how it got way over in the first place...) I did that and all seems well. One...

    Double Bass DB Bridge Placement

Again, thanks for the input. I don't think the neck is out of alignment. Perhaps, but no cracks and it has never been a problem before. Is it okay for the bridge to sit more one side than the other so the strings are dead center on the fingerboard and should there always be a straight line from...

    Double Bass DB Bridge Placement

Hey Don, thanks for the input. Yeah, the bridge has been bumped but most of those scratches came with the bass when I bought it. Your point about the adjusters are is well taken. On further inspection, it seems that the angle of the bottom foot on the adjuster is not the same angle as the bridge...

    Double Bass DB Bridge Placement

Hey folks. I have a rookie question. I have noticed that my adjustable bridge seems to be pulling to the right of center on my finger board, and yet the bridge legs seems to still be the same distance from each f hole. I have adjusted my bridge so they G string is 3/8 higher than the rest of the...

    Decent combo amp?

Asked almost the exact questions couple of months before. I play jazz and blues. I went with the Rumble 500 and it is awesome! Way better than I thought. It has plenty of power, three adjustments other than the regular equalizer, etc, (the "vintage" button is my fav), and a very light 36 pounds...

Double Bass How many years did you study before jazz was consistently fun?

Played bass guitar when I was young playing mostly rock but mostly played symphonic music on clarinet. Did the whole instrumental major thing in college. Always wanted to play jazz since it was my fav music but never had the chance on reeds. When I turned around 50 I decided, the hell with it...

    Best amp <$500

Tell you what. I asked about a great combo about a month ago. Several folks suggested the Fender Rumble 500. It is a little above your price range ($598 to your door) but it is a fantastic combo. The sound is even more what I hoped for with plenty of power. As a bonus it even sounds great with...

    Combo Amp Advice?

Rehearsed tonight with the Rumble 500 using my stand up. Had to dial it way back, but overall, it was just as clean and organic as my Phil Jones rig. Not sure yet on volume without feedback issues. Had to just about turn the gain off and really work my Fishman Pre. Still need to work on balance...
