I have a shortscale bass and I'm having trouble finding strings, I've been using normal strings but not only are they too long they don't sound good at all when I put them on. Any suggestions on what to do?

I also have the Gretsch 2202 Electromatic Jr Jet, i love it. Though i have trouble obtaining strings that will fit the short scale, any suggestions?
