You're right. But when your talking to your kids they never want to believe that the parents know anything. Her money so I didn't want to waste my breath telling her what she should do.

She considered that and I suggested it, but it was a bass that she had been looking for and that wasn't that common so she didn't want to keep looking.

Very good suggestion about getting a shop to inspect it for you. My daughter made the mistake of buying a bass off ebay based solely on the photos and wouldn't you know it, when she got it the truss rod was jacked up, her great buy turned into a so so buy when she factored in the repairs it...

    TO GO FRETLESS OR NOT?

Yep, if you put some flat wound on a fretted bass it will have the typical fretless sound which would probably be all the OP really is looking for if it is all down to being able to do a couple of songs that were intended for fretless.

    TO GO FRETLESS OR NOT?

If you look at what the OP said, it doesn't look like he is really wanting fretless beyond the need of one in a couple of songs.

it isn't shipping that turns me off ebay, it is the percent you lose to ebay and PayPal that gets me to only use craigslist.

Any thoughts on whether a theater amp would make a good bass amp?

I ran an audio test signal through it by plugging my laptop into it.

    TO GO FRETLESS OR NOT?

Good advice. It doesn't sound like the OP has the desire to be the next Jaco and playing in tune takes more practice than most realize.

Then I'm impressed that I got as much sound out of it as I did when I plugged a bass into it with no pre-amp.

Depends on how badly the seller wants to sell the bass. If they aren't having any luck selling it locally it may be their only option if it is some rare bass with a limited fan base.

Given some of the input connections were XLR's I was hoping it wouldn't. It was wishful thinking.

Full range signal, only downside is the massive weight and the need of line level since it wasn't designed for instruments.

    TO GO FRETLESS OR NOT?

I don't get the sense that you want to really get into playing a fretless, so I wouldn't suggest you spend good money for what sounds like a limited need. Just look your local pawn shops and craigslist. If they don't have a reasonable fretless then get one with frets and remove the frets. In...

You could have them send it to you COD through the US Post Office. The Post Office does COD as long as whatever is being sent is less than $1,000.

Well after finally getting the wire to hook it up, it works and gives a very clean sound when connected to a Peavy speaker. But I think I'll be selling it as it will requires a preamp to really work will with a bass and given how heavy it is it really isn't worth all the effort. At least I got...
