A used Pritchard amplifier. I check eBay and Reverb regularly. A used Doc Fisher Telecaster. I have a friend that saw one pop up on Reverb, but by the time he called me and I got to my computer it was sold.

These are both boutique items, hand crafted in small quantities.

I don’t really think those Katanas are all that super rare. I probably see at least one or two a year and I’m not looking. Patience grasshopper. Plus if you really want one that bad I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts you could get one from Ishibashi. Or whatever the name is. You should be searching on google instead of individual sites. Cast a wider net. Just now I found at least two for sale. You need to hone your investigative skills. Good luck. Also you could have a body made and a simple chop to a fender neck, viola’ done. I’ve looked for different basses for a long time too. Patience my friend

UPS does have collect on delivery (COD) if seller would agree to that. I like the music store involvement idea too, but before you set anything up I would talk to the guy on the phone and sound him out. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. Also ask for a specific picture to make sure he actually has the bass. By the way, there is a pandemic on and LA has been hit really hard. For that reason if you decide to try and move forward would be smart if only you and the seller work this out with either a shipping agent or a store if you both are willing.

Thanks for the advise. I have searched google, reverb, eBey, talkbass, squiertalk, google images and CL in all major cities for months now and have found one in California. I'm not on Facebook and have no idea what "ishsbashi" is...?
If you found 2 katana basses just now, please share the links...

Yep, kind of a leap of faith situation. Don't think there's a magical answer like you're looking for. I understand your hesitation. I think the COD options are your best bet if you're wanting that level of assurance. I'd run it by the ebay seller, it can't hurt.

The next thing I would do (and I did try doing a little bit for you this morning/evening whatever it is I haven’t gone to bed yet) is type in “Berlin, bass guitar stores” etc. I tried looking in London for you. And I looked on Ishibashi, in Japan, And a couple of other places.
Set up an alert on eBay in Reverb and all the normal sites if you haven’t already there’s a way to have it look for you and tell you when they find one. You really got to be a detective when you look for these types of things that are hard to find.
