Getting used to a bigger neck?

There are some nice p's with j necks out there - G&L LB-100 comes with a j-sized neck option, AFAIR. It's so tedious when someone asks a legit question about gear, and people start yelling JUST PRACTICE MORE. Get something you feel comfy on and makes you play your best, and practice on that :-)

Simple Poll - Do you like the sound of a PJ ?

Yes! I had a 80'ies MIJ Jazz Bass Special that I stupidly sold in the early 90'ies. At that time I didn't really take much time looking for any sweet spots between p/u's, but turned turned everything full on (VVT). This worked extremely well in live situations, with the split coil just sitting...

    Passive-fying a bass

I stripped my 2003 MIJ Ibby BTB1005E for it's Bart soapbars and pre, and installed a couple of Nordstrand Big Singles with V,V,T and a blend knob. I guess I can imagine situations where I might miss the air and hifi the Bart setup had (has - I still have it for future second thoughts /...

Do you consider a compressor pedal a "must have"?

I think I've played 90 % of my live gigs the last 35 years without one. I didn't really knw I missed it until I got an amp with a decent built in compressor (a TC head with "Spectracomp"), which, when used mildly, puts me closer to where I like in the mix, at least when I play rock / pop covers...

your thoughts about the most transparent 610 cab

I agree know overall with what dincz and cnltb are getting at, but just want to add that I tried out an epifani ul 610 once, and was actually surprised how even and yes, transparent it was. More than I expected from trying other 610s. However, I agree, a 610 wouldn't be the first thing I would...

    Strings and rigs are over-rated!!

I agree with those who say, that nobody in the audience will be able to tell or give a hoot if I'm playing this or that string or rig. I'm also close to unable to HEAR if I have this or that roundwound string on my bass. It's a bit different with rigs, but again, more to my and my bandmates that...

DARNIT!! JB Special kicked butt yesterday...

Thanks Marko, I will! I'm actually in Toronto in September, so if we work something out, shipping won't be a problem. At least not for you, I'll just have the usual with the airline :-)

Q for SWR Workingmans 15 users - settings?

It was actually surprisingly loud. I'm not looking for an aggressive sound with that band, "clean" is fine. Viewing that eq curve has given me something to work with next time.

Q for SWR Workingmans 15 users - settings?

I'll probably start off next time by dialing in around 250hz, leaving the enhancer somewhere before noon, turning the transparency off, and taking it from there. I also have some twiddling-options on my bass' preamp, which I might use to dial out some high mids.

...and thanks for linked to that other thread - explains quite a bit of the "problem".

Q for SWR Workingmans 15 users - settings?

THANKS Will, that's very helpful. I'll give it a try next time I'll be using it. Your description of the baked-in voicing and function of the enhancer/transparency makes good sense to what I experienced yesterday - but couldn't get fixed. Thanks!

Well, if you keep trading at that pace, your 2000 J might show up again soon ;)

DARNIT!! JB Special kicked butt yesterday...

Ibanez :-) My go-to bass is an older (MIJ 2003) Ibanez BTB 1005e, with Bartolini pre and soap bars. I've gigged it extensively the last decade, and like it for a lot of things. Soundmen really like it for the way it sits, and so do I. But yesterday the JB Special was just the thing, and kicked...

    RBD!!! (refurbished bass day)

Sweet, nice job! You're good to go for another decade+ there :)

DARNIT!! JB Special kicked butt yesterday...

Yes, it was quite a revelation yesterday, and I can see where this is taking me: To a loooong talk with the Secretary of Finance. I have a slight problem there, since I accidentally bought a motorbike last week, after maybe a drink or 11 too many. She might - rightfully - claim, that it's her...
