RE - switch to go from neck P/U to something else. I did something similar with my Squier P/J 20 years ago. It was passive already, but I added a mini switch. Switch up = neck only, switch down = whatever the knobs were set to.

I'm very glad that no one has said (yet) yeah I tried this and I regret it. I'm marking my plans Definitely Maybe - or perhaps Plausibly Probable - but only once I've more than one bass.
If I do do this, I will remove the current circuitry in its entirety, and put it to one side, so that it can be returned to original without any bother.
And also because I would want to hang onto the 2-circuit system - no reason why it couldn't be put into another passive two-pickup bass later on.

I had a very good experience converting an ESP LTD AP-204 bass to passive VBT.
I purchased the bass cheap off of eBay due to faulty active electronics. I was able to leave the existing blend pot and replaced the other two pots with the ones from the Precision bass electronics kit from guitarelectronics.com I ended up taking advantage of both capacitors included in the kit by installing a selector switch. I was very pleased with the result. I strung it up with GHS Pressurewounds and it sounded nice and fat with a good mid range presence. I really liked it, but ended up selling it to fund a USA G&L purchase.

I stripped my 2003 MIJ Ibby BTB1005E for it's Bart soapbars and pre, and installed a couple of Nordstrand Big Singles with V,V,T and a blend knob. I guess I can imagine situations where I might miss the air and hifi the Bart setup had (has - I still have it for future second thoughts / projects), but overall I'm very happy with my mod, that has given me a simplicity and a midrange presence that I've only experienced on passive systems. And holy cow, those Nordys ROOOOAAAAAR!!!!!
