I love the Atlansia basses and the Maruszczyk basses. Sometimes you can get lucky and find them used, fitting that price range. Also, the Ibanez basses from about $800 and up are always really solid. My Ibanez SR1000 from around 1988 still plays fantastically, sounds killer and is super light.

In addition to being a superb player, Tony also posts on TB from time to time... I think his site is really well done and I've found it to be quite helpful with regards to my own playing. I hope it works for you!

One of the things I often do on both bass and drums, is to set up a click and play to it, then turn it off with a foot switch... And then back on again after a certain number of measures, gradually increasing the number where the click is off. That'll certainly tell you if you're rushing or...

Oscar Peterson's "Nigerian Marketplace" with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. It doesn't sound as good as some of Peterson's other records but Oscar and NHØP are just on fire.

I had the good fortune to see a pre-tour rehearsal of KC with Gavin a few years back and it was just amazing how well he and Mastelotto play together (Fripp cancelled the tour after only five shows). Gavin played with Jakko in the 1994 version of Level 42, so they definitely have some history...

I have four Zons--4, 5, 6 & 8 string. Not a truss rod amongst them and they're all incredibly stable and sound amazing. I had the Legacy Elite 6 made around 1993. Never had an issue with the neck, never had to file a fret... Nothing. It plays like it's brand new. I just put some Thomastik flats...

Big big thumbs up on Lettuce...FONKY!! For some serious old skool funky stuff... Slave's "Slide", "Screw Your Wig On Tite", "Volcano Rupture" and "We Got Your Party"... The grooves are just beyond nasty. Mr. Mark Adams seriously laying it down...

Love my Carvin to death but I've played some nice Laklands as well. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the Carvin...
