Somewhere back in the 70s Lake called KC a F***ing disaster ... but later in his career he put a band together and played several old KC songs.

Greg made an excellent contribution to the first LP. You gotta love his vocals and melodic bass playing.

I had the good fortune to see a pre-tour rehearsal of KC with Gavin a few years back and it was just amazing how well he and Mastelotto play together (Fripp cancelled the tour after only five shows). Gavin played with Jakko in the 1994 version of Level 42, so they definitely have some history. Jakko is a great Holdsworth-style player and an excellent singer... Not sui generis like Belew but if Fripp doesn't want AB involved, Jakko should be a more than capable replacement.

Belew is currently working with Nine Inch Nails. Mastelotto and Levin are long time veterans and Mel Collins has rejoined. He played sax in earlier incarnations of the band.

Big Belew & Fripp fan here, whether together or apart. Actually, I got into Belew by way of Talking Heads, been a fan ever since. Got into Fripp through some guitar magazine article about his philosophy of playing that provoked my pseudo-intellectual side... emphasis on pseudo, real pseudo...

Back in the early 80's King Crimson came to Austin. I bought two tickets, but I ended up giving one away in the parking lot because I couldn't get anyone to go with me. They all said it would just be a 60's nostalgia show. I didn't know any better but I loved the old band, so that would've been fine with me. Mellotron at the threshold of pain!

Boy, was I surprised! Bruford, Belew, Levin, and Fripp tore it up. Belew my mind, so to speak.

If Fripp wants to turn another corner, then so be it. I look forward to hearing the new material. If they come to Austin, I'll be there.

The one thing you can count on with any lineup of King Crimson is that the musicianship is always top notch and they are always one of the most interesting live acts around when active.

Fripp may be an ass***** but he's very talented ass****.

a: no. after 32 years I am no longer in King Crimson.

q: were you asked to be in the new King Crimson?

a: no, I was not. robert informed me in an email that he was starting a 7-piece version of the band. he said I would not be right for what the band is doing.

q: so, how do you feel?

a: "happy with what I have to be happy with". which is quite a lot.

I'm busy creating something I've wanted to create all my life, something which has never been done. FLUX: never the same twice. creatively I'm exploding with new ideas, songs, and music. in 60 days I'll be touring south america with my beloved Power Trio and next spring I'll be touring europe with Crimson Project, which is a celebration of the crimson music
tony, pat, and I have help create. life is great.

q: what would you like to say to crimson fans about the new King Crimson?

a: my advice is to check it out and if you like it: support it.

Rockin' good news. I imagine all the editors at Prog Magazine ( Link Removed )are changing their underwear right now. As a fan of ALL the Crimso lineups(but there's a special place in my heart for the '72-'74 era), I'm actually glad that Belew is not involved, not in a mean spirited manner, but the 80's line-up with the 90's extention/mutation had a good run, and if Fripp is awakening the old beast again, he really should take the band in yet another direction. This is quite an all-star line up, but with some sympathetic new blood. Hope it works out. It's all probably because Toyah wants to remodel the house or something...

Wow. As I said in a previous post, I felt sure that Belew's exclusion was likely a mutual decision: Surely, I thought, Fripp wouldn't just unilaterally re-form KC without at least consulting with Belew. Learning that Fripp did exactly this, and informed Belew in an email, makes me feel pretty pissed off. As I said previously, I can see why excluding Belew makes sense if the goal is to do something that doesn't sound like previous incarnations of KC, but this was not the way to handle it. Belew deserves a lot more respect than that.
