The way you've worded that is confusing. An active DI like the Countryman needs power, if you switch off phantom power on your interface it won't work (unless you have a battery in it, but there's no point doing that).

I see this advice given often, but I also see a lot of bands who aren't experienced with production recording themselves like this and sucking the life out of their songs. It's fairly standard practice to track all at once even if you end up just using the drums and overdub everything else...
