Hey everyone, I am a army band musician who has a budget of 3500$ for a quality electric upright bass that I can take down range into Afghanistan. Taking the enviroment into consideration, what do you think is the best product for this price range? Thanks for your help!

you can rent a very decent upright bass from a music shop for around 40$ a month... and all the money you pay on it eventually go torwards buying your own higher-quality upright. thats what im doing for now and its very affordable.. plus i get a decent instrument that im not working my ass off...

atleast we dont need to buy 500milllion different stomp boxes.. in all honesty one multi-effects pedal board + a compressor (which is half the time built in with the board) is all the "extra" sounds we need.

Hey guys, Im trying to get more of my jazz soloing game on after recently embarrasing (embarassing?) myself at a live gig. I know that finding common chord patterns such as 2,5,1's can lead you to the parent scale, but unless somebody points them out I have trouble recognizing them immediatley...

aww that does suck =/, fortunatley though, there is still much to do musically without touching your bass. maybe you could start composing some scores, or research some theory? theres always much to be done to improve ones abilities :bassist:

First thing you should do is learn proper grammar.

As some people may have stated but I was to lazy to read, recording the bass line on an in tune electric bass on your computer and vamping that will help you out alot. Eventually, you will develop a sharp ear for the line and muscle memory for the fingering positions, untill then the best way...

I visited volkweins today after struggling with my initial first upright (lark 3/4) and after getting them to steer me away from some cheapo uprights I found one that is beautiful has a nice tone and is wonderful to play. Being no professional however, I would like you all to form your own...

Yes, it is a different instrument, besides the intonation you might have from playing double bass, eletric bass playing barely translates.
