    I Thought I Wanted A Wal

Apparently, they sound great. I've seen Tool 5 times. I have $3K in effects and pre's. So, why aren't these $5K basses selling, except the one that sold last week? Ok, so they're heavy. I've owned Alembics and Gibsons that were anvils. If the sound is so much better than an Alembic...

FS: Wal ProIIe *Magnum P.I. Bass*

i'm not sure i understand the connection between a wal bass and "tc's helicopter". is there something i'm missing about why anyone would paint racing stripes on a perfectly good wal bass? if there's something i'm missing, could you explain it to me, and i might bid! i want a wal!

Would you go boutique or vintage?

there are many issues w/vintage basses. the fact is the vast majority of vintage electronics in so many older basses are substandard compared to today's electronics. there is vibe and it is real, but i think places like the fender custom shop are turning out some incredible product. i have a...

    Couldn't see.......played the wrong notes

I was drunk and my friend told the bassist from the bar band at our hotel on S. Padre Island that I was a bassist. We bought him and drink and I didn't know I'd been set up. When the band got back onstage after their break, they called me up to play. I refused. The bassist came into the...

    Fender passive P bass schematic?

Would help if you described the Fender as far as year. I own some '51 and '55's and those are radically different.

Recommend a short scale narrow neck bass?

I had a '69 Gibson EBO that was just what you need. However, if you try Fender Custom Shop 58's and 59's you can find some really nice necks that are almost the same taper from nut to 12th fret, and they're fast, narrow, and a delight to play.

    Phil Lynott, where's the praise?

I've gone back and researched an old TB thread from years ago, available to all, and then looked at the video again and I swear it looks like it's a P, w/a mirror guard which is backed up by old threads here, w/a pup that looks to me like a SD Bart replacement in the bridge position. I don't...

    Phil Lynott, where's the praise?

Hey, Honk, that's a possibility. I briefly owned, before selling it back to him, M5Yates' Custom that Jaco actually played for a few months right before he was beat to death. I can tell you that nowadays, those electronics are a little rough and pitchy! Now, I'm not spoiled by what I have now...

Report From My Trip to Guitar Center

I'm an old guy but I'm a lawyer lucky enough to have alot of discretionary income. I've gone in there w/a roll looking for specific, expensive items but wanted to shop between brands on a number of occasions and never been able to get anyone to wait on me. I've walked around and walked around...

    Phil Lynott, where's the praise?

hey, honk: it's his beloved black fender P, which i've always heard had a mirror guard but i've never really been able to tell if that's a mirror guard. jaywa: if you ask me one of the best songs to hear his bass on, as far as mix and clarity, is "dancing in the moonlight".

    Phil Lynott, where's the praise?

How can anyone see & hear this and not love his bass playing and singing? Every true Irishman feels this song in his soul!

    Most Comfortable Strap?

I've got a custom Moody 4" which was about $145, but the 2 straps I just had built are the best straps I've used in 37 years of playing bass. I'm 55, 6'1" and weigh 260 and have an 18.5" neck, so I'm pretty good sized! I have a crappy back and crappy knees. Comfort is not just a pleasure for...

David Minnieweather...Where is the Bass I Paid For?

Since the thread's already been jacked (a bit), my vote goes to Scott Surine in Denver. Incredible basses. Asked for half down. Sent hi-res pics of amboyna blocks and recommended the one I agreed looked best. Made a cut and oiled the sliced side & sent hi-res pics so I could verify what it...

Lakland gold hardware for a 55-94

Hoping to help. These are pics of my '99 Lakland 55-94 w/gold hardware. This is s/n 9901 which means it's number 1 of the 10 tenth anniversary 55-94's, according to Kirk at Lakland. Pics just give you an example of what a 55-94 w/factory gold hardware looks like. Mine came from the factory...
