Round 2: Adam Neely almost looses $17k on a tour and has to hustle to BREAK EVEN!!

What do you propose the world do? How much do poets make? Painters? Sculptors? When it comes down to it, consuming art is a luxury (can we truthfully categorize most music as art?) Its unfortunate for us, but there are far worse problems in the world.

I really don't understand how we are supposed to afford this

Economic conditions come and go. When you think about how low interest rates have been for the past 25 years, this inflationary situation was sort of inevitable. Despite that, I just think that the music has become so easy to make and distribute via social media that the value of music has...

    Amp/cab sound vs the cost

Did the other bassist have a D.I. Before his amp going to front of house? Do y’all play the same bass? I only ask because I have gone down rabbit holes chasing a tone thinking it was one thing but it was another. I was standing behind his rig, so I couldnt hear front of house. He was running...

    Amp/cab sound vs the cost

I played a show last weekend. We were opening for Ally Venable in Ft Wayne IN. The headliners bassist was playing a couple of 2x10 cabs and a head. All were Bugera branded. Im not that familiar with this brand, but the rig sounded fantastic. Plenty loud without losing good tone/presence. I...

What artist/song/album started it all for you as a musician?

I was originally a drummer, and filled in on bass for, what was supposed to be, one gig back when I was in high school. :) I found I picked it up (at a very basic level) somewhat quickly. However I still considered myself a drummer. It wasn't until I heard Tony Levin's work with Peter Gabriel...

Do you really need more than 4 strings on a bass?

I never felt the need for more than 4 until I was in a band that played a lot of dropped D songs, and I discovered I hate playing in dropped D. I bought a 5 string so I would not have to play in dropped D. Once you get used to being able to play in the middle the neck without having change...

I Like J Basses Better Than P Basses

I generally prefer my j. however i put some dunlop Marcus strings on my p and am finding it has this bright growly thing happening in the mid range that sits in the mix in much the same way as my j; but with a beefier low end. That was an impressive run on sentence. :) Still prefer my j in...

I don’t miss tube amps and like class D. Anyone else?

Definitely not an expert here, but when I was using tube amps, I was also using massive cabs (misspent youth ). I do miss something about that setup. Headroom/clarity/presence. Not sure what the right term is. However, Ive been using class D for more than 10 years now. Very happy with it...

PJ vs P vs J….please advise!

Not to be difficult, but i think that a pj doesnt do full justice to either a p or a j. Im betting for most situations you either prefer a p or a j, so the only solution is to get one of each. :)

Why does my P-bass sound so good?

Sitting well in the mix is a funny thing. Agreed that the P is always a good bet. Sometimes though I think I find the pb tone 'indistinct.' Not sure if that makes sense. :) Depending on the genre, a jb, mm, or soap bars sit in the mix quite well, if EQ'd properly, with more 'character' than a...

    Questions about long lasting strings

Ive had good luck with elixir nanoweb. I know they stopped production for awhile presumably due to supply chain issues. However, i have a set that still sounds great after many gigs, and i play a bit on the aggressive side. I love dunlop super brights, but have found they lose life relatively...

    Fix my broke Carvin BX1500

I used a bx amp for 12 years. Not sure that i loved it, but the tone was neutral, and it was loud. Literally thousands of gigs. It finally bit the dust after a sudden rainstorm at an outdoor gig. I cant complain about it.

    4 chord minor 7?

Thank you all for your kind responses. Yes, I'm asking from a blues based perspective, and my own experience did not match what was being stated as being correct. Sorry, but another ignorant question. What do we refer to the idea of major scale harmonization as being? Is that a jazz...

    4 chord minor 7?

After many years of doodling around, I've decided to actually try and learn some theory. Just watched an interesting series of lessons at SBL on harmonization of the major scale. One of the things that I question is why I can play a minor 7 on the 4 chord and it not seem to clash? My...
