    I use a EHX Tri-parallel mixer to blend in 2 or 3 gains at a time. Haven't landed on anything particularly profound yet, but it's fun to experiment.

    Generally: less bass, more mids and blend in some dry signal when using gain to retain clarity and low end.

    Go see if you can visit the place. Prices are listed on their website. When I checked back when I was in a band considering booking time there, it was like $700 per session with Albini, and $500 with Greg, or an intern.

    He also has recorded a lot of Jazz and R&B albums (Chicago studio), I'm just not as familiar with them. He doesn't exclusively work with any particular genre, he keeps his fees very low and will work with anyone.
