NBD: 1994-1995 Matt Sharp Jazz Bass Tribute

Heck yeah, man! Great job on this! I'm so pleased I was able to at least offer some information to help this great build! That body and neck are superb. Great personal mods too. Enjoy the heck out of it! =W=

Jerry Jones Longhorn: what value pots / cap?

I say that, then find one in my archives straight away! Clearly had the lipsticks and bigger white knobs. Think this was 1993.

Jerry Jones Longhorn: what value pots / cap?

Oh yeah! Now that you mention it, the knobs on the blue album insert do look bigger than the regular strat knobs. Great find! I don't think there are too many pictures or video from that time - especially with the lipstick pickups.

Jerry Jones Longhorn: what value pots / cap?

Oh man, this is going to be great! Best of luck to you! No idea on the JJ pots and cap. I had a look through sold Reverb listings and whilst very few had pics of the pots and cap, none were enough to make out the values. That body looks amazing though....build thread definitely needed!

Restoring a Schecter Japan Jazz Bass

Thanks! Appreciate the kind words! Considering a refret on it now, and some restoration work on the pickups. Since I made the thread, the bobbins broke down and need to be replaced.

    Peavey 410TX owners...wiring help please.

Thanks all. They're the original speakers. 3 of the 4 tested fine with a multimeter and came to approx 7 ohms each. The fourth one was showing zip until I wiggled the wire between the terminals and...whatever that wire connects to! I resoldered that and it now gives a consistent reading of 7...

    Peavey 410TX owners...wiring help please.

Hi folks, I picked up an old 90's Peavey 410TX. It's the 8 ohm version, 350 watts. The speakers are currently all unhooked and I'm struggling to find a wiring diagram, or even a similar diagram which I could use. Are there any owners out there who fancy taking the back panel off and taking a...

    Shine an Ebonol fretless fingerboard?

I recently wet-sanded an actual ebony board using micromesh up to about 12,000 grit. It was reflecting images at that point. One day, I'd like to pick up a bench polisher and hit it with some compound and see how it turns out. Going higher with the grits may end up blending in the super glue...

anybody ever buy from TC GAKKI Japan?

I actually went to the TC Gakki shop when I visited Tokyo a few years back. It's quite big and there are old guitars and basses all over the place. Seems like most of it was 2nd hand, but all great quality bits. There was a wall of effects pedals. Tried a couple of basses, despite the language...

    Vintage Schecter?

Was this on Reverb? I think I was watching it for some time. Looks a good bass, regardless of its heritage. I know a bit about the old Schecter pickups and this definitely isn't one of those. They should have the quarter inch pole pieces and be coil-tappable. I did wonder if this could have...

Schecter JB-type Jazz Basses? Made in Japan?

Hi Marco, I don't know too much about them, I'm afraid. They seem to be made for the Japanese market as I've never seen one for sale outside of Japan. They are very similar to the Schecter custom shop basses of the 1990's. I'm guessing these are also from the 90's. The pickups are made in...

Help me build a Matt Sharp sig 5

Matt's neck has a gloss on it. You can tell from the Undone video, it's all shiny. I fancied a change on my current bass, so it as satin nitro, but I've played it enough now that the back of the neck is glossing up. The peghead is still satin though. Kinda cool. Yes, he sold the original...

Help me build a Matt Sharp sig 5

Good to hear from, man! Great to see you're still seeking that Matt Sharp 5 sig! I'll go through what I can answer... Body is a 1973 Fender J bass. 4 holes for the neck plate, so before that changed, anyway. Correct on the bridge. When he sold the original back in 2010/11, it was Schaller...

NBD - 1976 Greco Precision Bass

Thanks folks. I did have the tort and another 3 ply black one made up. I do agree that black and natural goes really nice together, but the originality thing clinches it for me! Appreciate your comments.

NBD - 1976 Greco Precision Bass

Bumping this as I've been working on this again... The pickguard in the first photos is the original white one, but was crudely spray painted black when I got it. There were a few chips where I could see the white underneath, so over the last few weeks I decided to strip the black paint off...
