New StingRay with piezo pickups. Pics and short review.

I am really in the market for an MM-Ray with piezos (I want a Graph Tech with all the gizmos). This is classy-nice, especially with the elegant pearloid/marble pickguard.

    Virtual 12x18

Mind you all, as you see in my icon, that is in-deed a Fender Musicmaster short-scale welded to my solar plexus. I use very light Rotosounds or GHS's tuned down to 'B'-'D' [lowest string is 0.95]. So I really need that DSP brain and brawn. I play a lot of multi-stops, and Travis picking/banjo...

    Virtual 12x18

That's what Korg says it is! And it SOUNDS plausible, a massive, gothy, Abbey Road cistern kind of sound. I have full long reverb on it, an just wallow in it. As I just said, the new Kemper lets you record your own rig in a suitable room, in my case would HAVE to be Abbey Road Studio 1 or Union...

    Virtual 12x18

I read that article, @BioWeapon! I saw it in a Stereo And Music guide. I subscribed to them way back in the 80's. The system had two banks of 4x12's, a bit like Infinity's Reference System (Genesis revived this idea), and he vented the sound to his living area through floor ducts. I LOVED this...

    Virtual 12x18

I have an "old" (ask Stephen Hawking about the relativity here!) 2004 Korg Toneworks Bass Modeling preamp. It's the brains of my rig. On the cabinet setting I use the 12x18 almost exclusively. I'm so into DSP that I may never buy "real-life" amps and cab's again, but I'd like to know if there...

A Bassline That Never Fails You

I have two. My own that I call the "Renaissance" scale because played stepwise ascending and descending it sounds like a Jon Camp/Renaissance classic. It's essentially a Major scale started on the minor 7th. It works with virtually all jazz since the late 40's. The other is HRH Sir Paul "Big...

Wilton Felder also plays on Seals And Crofts' Maj7 masterpeice "We May Never Pass This Way Again". It's a current anthem for me.

Famous songs recorded with EB MusicMan basses

Larry Klein is the long-time bassist with Joni Mitchell; he plays a 5-string Stingray. Oscar Allston played 'Ray on Rick James' "Superfreak", and Allston composed that skanky-phat-booty riff!

I think I've concluded I favor single pickup basses

    LOVE SPECTOR!

    What is a Piezo pickup?

@Andy Daventry: You need something like Sting's 'Synchronicity' set-up ("it's like a PA, and it's very loud") or Greg Lake's monster 1974 set-up (Google California Jam). You need a bi- or tri-amped system suitable for PA or keyboards with stereo stacks. Folded 18's or 15's, multiple 10's or 12's...
