Long shot here, but has anyone ever seen the bobbin without wire? I am wondering if this has a plastic center section around the magnets, or is it like an old-school fender with two flat plates and the wire wound around the magnets themselves?

The problem there would be structural. Since the pickups will be hidden under the top, the routs for the pickups will go through the back, and the bass will need the strength of the sides.
