    IF LEO FENDER WERE ALIVE....

If Leo were alive today he’d be 109 years old as of yesterday. Happy Birthday Mr. Fender! To answer your question: most likely whichever he made most recently.

What percentage of TB loves / hates relic finishes??

Funny how people love “ya wanna know how my bass got these scars?” stories.....until it’s time to sell it.

Feel vs Chops..which do you prefer or think is more important?

I think it’s a false dilemma. Put it this way, you just typed a few paragraphs expressing how you feel about technical drummers. You couldn’t have done that had you not first learned the rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation, verb conjugation, subject/predicate, conjunction junction...what’s...

Why is low tuning on a bass the taboo of music?

Exactly. What many of those guitarists who like to tune down don’t realize is that the moment they make that 1st half step drop, they’re already in the bassist’s frequency. Think about it: that low open Eb on a guitar tuned down a 1/2 step is now the exact same pitch as the lowest Eb on a...

Why is low tuning on a bass the taboo of music?

And I have a 4 string down tuned to BEAD so it’s all good! ;)

Why is low tuning on a bass the taboo of music?

Other than that you don’t like how down-tuned basses sound, the rest of this is completely off base. Mainly your assertion that bass players tune down because they think it sounds better. No. Bassists tune down because the down-tuned guitarist is already encroaching in the bass player’s...

Did Pino bring back the pbass? Or did Scott’s bass lessons?

Fun fact: George Porter Jr uses rounds!

Did Pino bring back the pbass? Or did Scott’s bass lessons?

This is true. All these folks saying the P never left are also correct- only that after Slutsky’s book came out, more and more players started putting flats back on them. Flats were definitely NOT a thing in the 80’s and only few string makers made them. Flats are more popular now than they...

Did Pino bring back the pbass? Or did Scott’s bass lessons?

Oh, and Pino also participated in the Standing In The Shadows project. That may have been a catalyst to help spark his continued interest in the P bass. AFAIC, Allan Slutsky gets more credit for elevating the visibility of the whole P-with-flats thing than Pino and Scott combined.

Did Pino bring back the pbass? Or did Scott’s bass lessons?

If anything, the current “P bass with flats” vogue sparked off in the 80s with the release of Standing In The Shadows Of Motown- where seemingly everyone and their dog learned who Jamerson was.

Want to know who WON’T be buying your bass?

Conversely, a lot of people have no business buying anything online, sight unseen. Just take your ...ass to GC and be done with it. :)

Guitarist Is Never Satisfied with His Amp

Just tell him unless y’all are covering Big Bottom, the band has already got a bass player. That kind of BS is how bass frequencies get gobbled up to the point the actual bass player gets accused of being too loud. Common rookie error: trying to fit your alone-in-the-bedroom tone in a band mix.

Instrument Aesthetics - stand out or blend in?

You should totally get another bass...and put this on it! :D

Instrument Aesthetics - stand out or blend in?

Given the current social climate, I’d personally think twice about bringing Batgirl-showing-off-her-butt to a corporate gig -but that’s just me. The Looney Toon stands out as different but not “offensively” so. I’d have no problem bring it to such a gig. Now if the gig had say a rockabilly or...
