Hoping to save myself some work ...

Some 80 or 100 grit sand paper would take down a bone nut in minutes, not hours. Let's see a picture of this plastic thing, I can't picture it in my mind....

Oily substance in my battery box

Not strong enough. There are tons of "just use vinegar" posts on the internet, but the corrosion returns. If you don't see the corrosion literally fizzing off of the metal, your acid is not strong enough to permanently remove the alkali salts. Here you can see the damage that has traveled...

Oily substance in my battery box

Or how about this acoustic guitar preamp where the battery leaked and the fumes corroded everything in sight?

Oily substance in my battery box

If you don't neutralized the alkali salts from a leaky battery, it corrodes up the wires and onto the preamp board. The alkali keeps corroding, even after the battery itself has been replaced. Even the fumes from the battery juices will corrode metals inside the cavity. How many vintage...

Oily substance in my battery box

Sno-Bowl or Zep are both thick, so they don't run everywhere; and say "acidic" right in the product name. In this thread, you can see some **miracle** circuit board saves, after leaking batteries corroded them: Invalid Link Removed

Does this sound like a blown speaker to you? Mesa 1x15

Try flipping the driver 180 degrees I used to laugh when players would say that, but had to do it once on tour, and it worked (...at least long enough until we got to a big city and could buy a new driver)

    Output Jack Wear?

Just get a new, non-bootleg (tons of fakes out there) Switchcraft plug. Usually they are brass, plated with nickel

Oily substance in my battery box

Wipe down box and terminals with Acid toilet bowl cleaner. Rinse after it stops fizzing. Baking soda makes it worse, because it, and the corrosive alkaline battery juice, are both alkaline

    Output Jack Wear?

Gold plating sucks, no matter where it is on a guitar.

    Output Jack Wear?

One of my basses is 40 years old and gets plugged/unplugged almost daily. Still the original Switchcraft jack. I have occasionally re-bent the tip contact over the years to tighten. When it finally breaks, I'll replace it with another non-bootleg Switchcraft jack They are rated for 20,000...

Playing Left sucks when you don't have endless resources

Glad there are no LH pianos or saxophones.....

Playing Left sucks when you don't have endless resources

The Fender rep told me that only 6% of their production is LH, so obviously, many lefties are playing RH I've always taught LH friends to play RH, they thank me later

    Crooked neck plate?

It's a relic, it's supposed to look like junk. Corroded screws, chipped paint, body oil stained neck.
