Playing Left sucks when you don't have endless resources

Who plays left and knows this feeling frustated looking on endless opportunities for right hand player while we have to pull a Hendrix.
I mean come-on music man with there one propper sterling model that looks like a Ikea bookshelf type a wood. No color option nothing.
And you can't find a jazz bass with a neck with inlays for leftys without loosing an arm and a leg.
And then hits covid and worse become Armageddon.
Sucks isn't it??

I'm curious how many people told you this would happen when you were first learning.

No sympathy, and to be clear, I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but this is part of why I tell new bassists learn right handed unless you really want to go through the same things that you are.

Builders look for profit, and the amount of retooling for a bass with lower sales justifies the increased costs.

As a gas-afflicted lefty player for over a decade now I feel your pain.
The market for bass guitars is small, and the market for left handed instruments is even smaller. The space where they overlap is so tiny that I'm surprised anyone makes them, to be honest. In the past I've been able to dig up Sire, ESP, MusicMan, and G&L basses locally, but you have to be on the lookout constantly. I can't remember the last time I was in a music store that had a left handed bass in stock, even used.

Hate to say this, but one of the greatest things about growing up in a smaller town with no resources or interest in helping out a lefty really paid off in spades as I grew older. I had to learn to do everything right handed. So I write left and do almost everything sort of ambidextrously by habit and force of will. However with instruments I’m now an entrenched righty.

Most lefties I know are ambidextrous and I always think that is a plus. My second cousin, an accountant can write left and right but what blew my mine is she can enter numbers in a paper ledger on two separate columns at the same time. She is like 65 now and obviously she uses computers for the last 20 years. but she still can do it. She also showed me she can copy 2 paragraphs and write them on 2 sheets of paper simultaneously.

It does suck, I knew how bad it was going to be in terms of choice, price etc before I started learning and im a natural left hander, so I just learned righty instead. Simple, easy and definitely worth it in the long run.

When I started guitar I was told to just play righty. I was new at it anyway and since my left hand does most of the intricate work it seemed like a smart move. Glad I did, since finding anything left handed is near impossible. Even a baseball mit was hard to come by and that alone helped me make the decision to play righty.
