    Masking Vs. Scraping Binding

    My experience with scraping is that it isn't too bad. I did it with a cabinet scraper and used the wood as a template. On the other hand, my binding was black, so nothing really could show up on it even if stain got on it. I'm not sure how deep paint or stain would penetrate on white binding...

    What woods is this bass made from?

    No expert, but I have seen mahogany that looks like that, so my guess would be that the body is mahogany.

    Was the first bass you built respectable?

    I've been lurking here for a while, but I am on my second build and I'd say my first build was decent. ('59 Les Paul attempt) I know that I could've done better with the neck and the fretwork, but that's just something to work on.
