    My first Bass?

It sounds like you would be best with a J-style bass. I would suggest either a Squire (as previously stated) or an SX.

    Best practice amp?

Acoustic is just the name of the brand. It's an electric bass amp. Also, an acoustic amplifier is kinda an oxymoron. Also, I own the Acoustic B20 (my only amp), and it's loud enough and has great tone until you turn the volume up high, when it gets all growly.

    Strange Buzzing

I still haven't been able to reproduce this problem again at all. It has only happened twice before, but I'd like to prevent it from happening again.

    Strange Buzzing

I recently (mostly successfully, after a few difficulties) installed some new Dimarzio Model J pickups in my Fender MIM Jazz. It sounds great, but I've encountered a few problems, most of which I've fixed. My current problem is this: If my amp is on with my bass plugged in and I'm not...

    New Essex (SX) Headstock?

I'm a little worried. It will be fine as long as the make it look good. My local shop makes a bass with a similar headstock, and it doesn't look half bad. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Now, if they make it look awful like the guitars, I'll be a little more worried.

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

Thanks, I'm not sure I'm happy with the way I did it (put gobs of solder on all the connections), but the bass works great now. Any clue as to why it only broke when I slapped?

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

Alright, the last time the sound cut out, it just stopped entirely. I've checked, and the problem is not with my amp. Could there maybe be a loose wire or something? How would I go about locating such a thing?

    Fender 7150 or DR Sunbeam?

What I'm curious about is how they age. How does the tone sound different after a while playing them?

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

Well, thanks to the advice from everyone here, I've managed to get the pickups up and working properly, except for one major problem. Whenever I start slapping (I usually play fingerstyle), the sound just cuts out. I have had to wait a couple minutes for it to come back when this happens. What...

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

It's a screw going into the wood that's attached to some metal piece that the wire was soldered to. Are you saying it doesn't matter if I attach the ground wire to it as long as it's soldered to the back of the pot?

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

Alright, I finally managed to take off the original pickups. However, I do have a question. Inside the cavity for the bridge pickup, there is one of those things you attach a ground wire to (I'm not sure what it's called. There's another one between the neck pickup and the control cavity.)...

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

I finally managed to desolder two of the wires, the two connected to the "legs". The two directly on the pots just have way too much solder. I can't melt it. Is there any way around this?

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

Is there anything I can do about the pots being a heat sink, or do I just have to deal with it?

Weird Problem - Solder Won't Melt

Whoever soldered this originally did use huge gobs of solder. If that's the problem, do I just need to hold it on longer?
