It sounds like you would be best with a J-style bass. I would suggest either a Squire (as previously stated) or an SX.

Acoustic is just the name of the brand. It's an electric bass amp. Also, an acoustic amplifier is kinda an oxymoron. Also, I own the Acoustic B20 (my only amp), and it's loud enough and has great tone until you turn the volume up high, when it gets all growly.

I still haven't been able to reproduce this problem again at all. It has only happened twice before, but I'd like to prevent it from happening again.

Thanks, I'm not sure I'm happy with the way I did it (put gobs of solder on all the connections), but the bass works great now. Any clue as to why it only broke when I slapped?

Alright, the last time the sound cut out, it just stopped entirely. I've checked, and the problem is not with my amp. Could there maybe be a loose wire or something? How would I go about locating such a thing?

What I'm curious about is how they age. How does the tone sound different after a while playing them?

It's a screw going into the wood that's attached to some metal piece that the wire was soldered to. Are you saying it doesn't matter if I attach the ground wire to it as long as it's soldered to the back of the pot?

Alright, I finally managed to take off the original pickups. However, I do have a question. Inside the cavity for the bridge pickup, there is one of those things you attach a ground wire to (I'm not sure what it's called. There's another one between the neck pickup and the control cavity.)...

I finally managed to desolder two of the wires, the two connected to the "legs". The two directly on the pots just have way too much solder. I can't melt it. Is there any way around this?

Is there anything I can do about the pots being a heat sink, or do I just have to deal with it?

Whoever soldered this originally did use huge gobs of solder. If that's the problem, do I just need to hold it on longer?
