I will start this.... here is a small snipit of me on my new Warwick Custom Shop Streamer LX from 12-21-12 when we (Trust For Liars) played with another fellow Warwick artist, Emma Anzai from Sick Puppies...

Its not a live video, but I recorded the track on my German $$ Corvette and performed in the video with it.
WARNING: METAL CONTENT!!



I'm interested in comments on the tone. The mix was done by the guitarist. I'm not 100% sure if the $$ is the right tone for what I'm doing. If there's a different Warwick that would match the music better I'm open to input.

I think you sound great, as does the whole band. You've got kind of a Jazz bass bridge tone...cuts really well....
But if I were you I'd go for a less 'pointy' tone--I'd go for more neck pickup. Maybe ALL neck pickup. Would give you a meatier, rougher sound which might actually 'sit in the mix' better. My two cents. You sound great.

Here's a solo tune I wrote about a month ago, and premiered it at a cabaret concert. The Director of the Theatre told me that I would be a f------ idiot if I didn't record that and put it on an album this year, so that's the goal.

Thanks for the feedback.
I was thinking the same thing about the highs poking out too much. It almost sounds a little thrashy even though the music is more in the Doom/Stoner genre.
I have the pickups set to the middle, the neck pickup in single coil, the bridge in switched up (serial I think?), the bass flat and the treble probably rolled off a smidge. I had a new set of Fedora nickle round wound strings on it, which are very bright. We used a little compression on the way in to my GB Shuttle 9.0, and I think the engineer was pushing the preamp a little. I don't know what, if anything, happened in the mix down.

i think it sounds good, man. i like a little bit in the sound to make sure you're not drowned out. good and fat, good stuff :bassist:

Thanks, although the name of the Pressurewound Flats is kind of a misnomer. The winding starts out round and then is squeezed as it's wound, giving an oval shape wrap on the string. So, it's a little more mellow than their roundwounds, but still much brighter and punchier than an actual set of flatwounds.

I think I've heard those called half-flats as well. I tried out the GHS Brite Flats that were also amazingly articulate for flats. I guess GHS is just good at making flats that don't sound like rubber bands.

Could be. Funny you mention the Brite Flats; those are technically groundwounds, because they're a round wrap that's ground smooth. The Precision Flats I believe are the only ones that actually use a flat wrap.

Dude nice show.... you have a great stage presence, the playing is good and you guys actually remind me of a friends band DIVE. Good stuff.

But I gotta say it that bass looks like its going to choke you. And that's coming from somebody whose pet peeves include players wearing their instrument too low or incorrectly altogether as to look "cool"

I hear you on the "choking hazard" with my bass playing. just the way I learned and play. Much easier for me way up there and it opens up the fretboard tremendously!
