Was the Marcus Miller Jazz Bass Discontinued?

Stumbled upon this when I am GAS-ing on a marcus miller fender bass in midst of the hype of Sire bass.

Having a giggle on the cynicism that happened in the early days of Sire bass. Who would have thought Sire would become a big hype. :)

Simple answer really, he moved over to sire for his own reasons! I guess he acid test for them will be to see if Marcus uses one live instead of his Fender, it's all very well for pub and club musicians to say they are great but if he won't use one, kinda say's it all doesn't it

He uses his Sires live quite a bit, though he still uses is one favorite old Fender a lot too. But plenty of vids out there of him rocking the Sire live....

Yep. The covered switch disconnects the battery so you can leave it plugged in without battery drain.
I LOVE the battery switch. :hyper: Wonder why more folks/ manufacturers don't do that? :eyebrow: Seems so obvious.
With the switch off, does the bass play at all, or is it silent? And howja do that?

But that IS like a lot of buttons man!

It's silent. The down side is that it's impractical for a gig because it makes a popping sound when the power connects. Great for at home if you want to keep it plugged in and ready to play.

I figured it popped. Remember someone talking about something like this (I like being specific:whistle:) years ago - matter of fact, maybe the guy from Kinal? - and he solved it with a resistor. Still, cool design. That's what I wanna do, is leave it plugged in at home.

A better question is why planet waves, or somebody, didn't make a cable with a stereo plug in the instrument end and dual inline switches allowing you to connect and disconnect power to the pre and/or mute the instrument. I made my own and it works!

THAT is cool.:hyper:
But, does it stop battery drain? You can leave it plugged in for days, and the batter stays up?
Did you cut the positive, or negative side, or does it matter?

On all of my actives, the input jack is a stereo. The battery is wired into the ring and sleeve contacts, since on a normal quarter inch plug both of those contacts touch the sleeve, inserting it completes the circuit.

On my cable I put a switch between the ring and sleeve so that I can disconnect them (that's why I put a tip/ring/sleeve aka "stereo" plug at the instrument end) , that disconnects the battery... no drain.

I can't find the thing on Fender's website, and I saw someone mention it on a classifieds thread. I know they moved production from Japan to Mexico for the 4, but that's it. Did Fender ditch it?
Marcus miller's contract ran out with fender then he switched to sire, or should I say was approached by sire and he went with them, Personally The Japanese one are better in my view, there quality control is every bit as good as the american custom shops.
