I bought this bass not knowing much about the manufacturer. I think the company is in Belgium, and the bass is made in China. Been wanting a shortie for awhile now. I have one other, but it's in the uncompleted project stage. (build thread when completed) It will be a few weeks before I'll have a chance to finish the project, so I acquired this $200 cure for my short scale fever on ebay, and figured, worst case scenario... if it plays OK.... a great platform to mod. It arrived Tue. Woo Hoo!
Out of the box it played pretty well. It only needed a slight intonation adjust to the D & G string, and a smidg of height adjustment. Neck is 1 5/8" ( 42mm) at the nut, and feel wise, some where between my Jazz and Spector. Easy playing, comfortable maple neck with rosewood board. Frets are filed pretty nice and it has 24 frets, not real common for shorties, one reason I went with this bass. The body is 3 piece alder. They did a fairly nice job grain matching, though you can kind of see glue joint, especially on the end grain. But, all and all a pretty nice looking chunk of wood. Seems to be a nice tight fit of neck to pocket. The pickup routs seem a little big, but not grossly butchered or anything. The pickups sound very decent, but are a little noisy as in when you tap them it's pretty audible. I took it to rehearsal last night, and in a band setting sounded pretty darn good. Not noisy at all. No hiss or buzz. The tuning machines held a good tune, though it sort of felt like they wouldn't, but no problems. The vol. & tone pots aren't so great. The bass won't go completely quiet. Even with everything turned all the way down, still very slight volume. ??
For the most part, a nice solid build, with a very descent neck, and good sounding bass. I am very pleased with the purchase. However, I have a feeling once my other project is finished, I'll most likely mod more to my liking to make it a real keeper.
