Magma Strings

This thread is old, but the magma strings are all but old!
Check out the black nylon tapewounds, BE400NB, they are awesome. If you play D-standard than you should definitely try the BE500NB set, at 53-73-93-113 these strings are amazing. Of all the nylon flatwounds I tried these are THE BEST.

What other nylon tapewounds can you compare the Magmas to? In what respects do they come out the winner? Thanks!
By the way: at long last have they built a distribution channel in the USA.

La Bella, d'Adarrio, Fender and maybe some other I don't recall.
The difference, these sound exactly like round-wounds but play like Pyramid flats, or to me even smoother.

Hey there I'm bumping this thread wondering if anyone has tried the magma roundwound strings. I'm seeing them very cheap online and wanted to know some more about the company and what someone thinks about these.
I've heard they are the hottest thing out there...
I looked at their website and it looks like they are well set up and not just a fly by night operation. I wonder how the stainless roundwounds are. I'm hoping one of our bass guys and gals from South America could give us a little insight. I'm thinking next paycheck I'm going to order a set for myself. You can't beat the price vs what I usually am paying for strings. 35-40 per set at least.
I can absolutely vouch for Magma strings. I've never tried their roundwounds, but seeing that their tapewounds are in reality roundwounds I would say they are just awesome. At this moment I have three basses with magma strings. I'd like to have more of them but they are a little hard to get here.
I see you are from España. I love the way you're supposed to say that much better than the English Spain. Haha but anyway I appreciate the message back and I'm definitely planning on buying a set for myself. I can buy from the website or from ebay. For you I bet you could order them from Magma website. I noticed that eBay has some strings from Spanish sellers so I would look there and see as well.
Actually I'm not Spanish, but I live here for 24 years already and I speak 5 languages. But well, that's another story.
Magma's here in Spain are only sold by Musicopolix. We have a local store here, but I usually order from the website. Ordering from Magma or any other outside-EU website isn't very cheap as it gets charged with additional VAT, apart from S&H.
There are some very good EU websites for strings but they don't carry magma's.
I can imagine. You're basically paying the cost of another whole set just for shipping. I'd like to try Warwick strings as well as Gali and Mark bass but the prices keep me away since importing them sucks.
Warwick at least have established a US distribution channel:

One thing for sure is that none of these brands are household names in the US and it makes them harder to come by. I've brought in a bass with Ken Smith strings and the owner of the guitar shop never even knew ken Smith had strings. At least Ken is from Pennsylvania here in the states. Lol the guy really thought the purple wraps were cool and he liked the sound. He said they sound better than most of the strings he had on the shelf. I'm wierd, I love exotic strings. I'm even looking at some strings built in Russia. Maybe they will be on my bass sometime but my mind is mostly made up on trying out a set of Magma stainless strings. I like the fact it's the same price as getting a set of rotos or blue steels but it's something I've never seen before.
I don't know if you know Stringjoy, but those are awesome strings too. I have them on my rickenbacker and fakenbackers, mostly because they sound just like the original strings but since I play DGCF I generally need +5 gauge up and rickenbackers have a rather weird set of gauges. Stringjoy sells single ones in every possible gauge and are really good.
I've heard of them. They are a small company in Tennessee. What I like about them is that they support a local charity that takes old worn out strings and makes jewelry with them. The money goes to helping abuse and trafficking victims as well as substance abuse. It's mostly local in Nashville, Tennessee but it's a wonderful cause and I'm getting ready to send them all my old dead strings that have been piling up. About Us if you look at the website under donors String joy is right there on top.
I haven't had them in my hands yet. I have a different string on my main bass that I really like so I've been putting this experiment off. They are one of the more reasonable priced strings you'll find.
