NOT HERESY lol, standard on most of my axes...I think adding "non-standard" necks from fleabay "the Chinese necks" to a Glarry work, but IME not Fender/Squier necks unless you don't mind your saddles bottomed out it'll most likely need a shim. Check out Allen Eden Oly white bodies they go on sale occasionally for $114-$124 seemingly nice bodies and IIRC standard Fender size
Glarry Burlywood!!! To match your black blocks I would just leave the black p/u covers and/or hit the PG with black Krylon.

So, the funkmasters are on the Harley,
WAY less tension than the slinkies. Had to add some bow to the neck and raise the bridge saddles a bit but It set up well.
First impressions are not bad. I definitely need to use a light touch...especially on the Gstring. I bent it straight off the fretboard at first
the stainless string on stainless frets is pretty cool!!
Ill keep you updated as time goes but yah, pretty cool!

re: the general discussion of shims: shims aren't the enemy and their use does not constitute a failure. it's the opposite = shims are a tool (an actual part) and they can save a project/effort --- a shim can help make a player out of the rest of the assembled parts!

Bah, I know, just having fun with the stuff from a few days ago... I know/agree that shims are perfectly fine and sometimes a necessary thing. And I've (gasp) even used some myself.. (And talked about possibly using one when I put a high mass bridge on my PBass to keep the action the same with the increased height over the bent plate...

With black blocks? Blood red to dark red: fire engine red is too bright. Transparent or metallic, if possible.
As long as you don't play with a pick, here's what you do:
Lower your bass to rockstar level, until your arm is nearly straight. You might need a longer strap.
Pull the neck up with your other hand so that the instrument is more vertical, like a double bass, instead of horizontal.
Then, let the headstock point forward somewhat, instead of straight across the body. The body will come back around your hip, but if the bass is low enough it won't feel awkward.
This position not only lets your wrists and forearms stay in a more natural, less twisted position, it lets you relax your shoulders.
Watch Robert DeLeo playing with STP. This is how he holds his bass in every video I've seen. 5:30 and 21:55 are good examples.

that particular strap technique has limitations when playing the higher notes (i play a bunch of those), but i can see that the "money notes" would be more comfortable. the fact remains that i may have to try a different approach with the strap and the 'hang' --- e.g., i've made adjustments for my fatness in the past few years. i also have an m-brace on a good stand (which has helped me previously).
i'm thinking that the best fix, overall, is to get a new shoulder!
i'm just not excited about it!

Seriously, I joined the Navy in early 82, so almost all of the events of the 80s and 90s are kinda vague for me, unless they involved being on a submarine.

Those supplements I talked about should help you to rebuild that shoulder without surgery!thanks for the reference, spatters!
