    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

:) Sorry, it's a mistranslation. Both keyboard and fingerboard translate to "tastiera" in Italian.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

It seems a setup issue to me. I use them on a fretted bass with no issue, and rather had the opposite problem (too distant from keyboard) until I mitigated using the truss rod.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

I'm still using them. I confirm a tension higher than I would like and short sustain when the string is not played open. Intonation is very stable after a very short settling. The sound is very nice.

They are not. There's a short review I wrote on this thread a while ago.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

The E string of my Aquila Thunder Reds broke after one year. I decided to try them, I put them on my Exotic Mahogany yesterday evening, so that's just the first impressions. The strings have a nice sound. With tone setting you can vary from a double-bass-like sound, somewhat similar to the...

Yes. And yet after two months no review or demo, save the promotional video on YouTube.

After two months, did anybody try those and is willing to review them?

    Guitar Scale Acoustic Basses

As for Shortbassone loudness: I played the previous version unamplified along several soprano ukuleles, and it was loud enough. The new version should be even louder.

    Guitar Scale Acoustic Basses

I'm surprised no one posted about this: Invalid Link Removed Once I played one of early models and totally fell in love with it.

Ok, what about the sound of Reds compared to Blacks? Because tension and tendency to roll should be about the same. Do they only differ in sound and color, don't they? And reds sound is better for you?

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Can you please explain a little more? Reds are better sounding but Thunder Blacks are the best one? Why? Thanks.

This is what I found about Galli UXB 810. Does anyone know what is the white thing on the saddle? I thought about a protection for different tension, but in other photos or videos there is nothing on the bridge. I asked them on their Facebook page but they're closed for summer. I also wonder...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

I phoned Aquila when they came out, they told me they are exactly the same as Thunderguts, excluding color.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Did anybody try Galli UBX 810 Blacknylon or Dogal UBS162 metal strings? Any review or audio sample, or comparison with, for example, Pyramid? I could not find much online.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Aquila thunder reds strings have an even volume.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Just my two cents. I think it is needed because the strings are "flappy" and must be played with strokes towards the bass for loudest sound. Of course with metal strings I would find it definitely too high.

I got my refund from Thomann (thank you, Thomann) and bought the exotic mahogany ubass. I just replaced the Pahoehoe strings with Thunder Reds: this is my feedback in case someone needs it. They are definitively louder: using a sound level meter, without any pretense of being scientific, I got...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

I sometimes practice with my wife without amp, with a soprano ukulele and her voice, so loudness is important to me: the Silver were barely acceptable for that use.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Yes. I like the black strings on mahogany body, I don't know if I will like the red. Yes, I know many think that. I played without amplification, so I did not notice the Pahoehoe do not make the noise. As for "cold", I talked about a tactile feeling, not sound at all: they're harder and colder...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

While still waiting for approval of my refund, I could finally try a UBASS-EM-FS, which I liked more than my Rumbler. Being in a store, I am sure I will get no surprise. What I found, on a side-by-side comparison with the Rumbler, is that I think strings on the Rumbler (Aquila Silver, which...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

I asked Kala, which pointed me to Warwick, which pointed me to Thomann, from whom I bought it. They are still examining my email and (many) photos, but they are experiencing delays in support. Anyway, Warwick support wrote me it could be eligible for warranty replacement. Kohanmike, thank you...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Hello. This is what I noticed today: a crack on the head. My bass has never fallen or been hit. Should I worry it will eventually break? What can be the cause of that? Do you think I may ask for a warranty replacement? Thank you.

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

I don't think I read this elsewhere, so I want to share my finding. Please forgive me if it's already in the hundreds of pages of this thread. The A string on my Rumbler was out of tune: if I tuned it open, it was flat on V fret. If I tuned on V fret, it was sharp when played open. The other...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Can you please add some details? AFAIK, the tone knob simply controls the cutoff frequency of a lowpass filter. Is this right? How is the lowpass filter you're talking about different? Maybe a steeper slope?
  26. N

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Is it different from using the tone knob?

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

It didn't take five minutes, but much much more, because understanding what to do was not so immediate! Your solution is indeed better, if you are not worried of warranty. And as I said it's because I have a small hand. And you're right it's bad design. To contain the damage I also enlarged the...

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Hello everyone, I just received my fretted Rumbler, and I think it's wonderful. I have a question: did anyone try the new Aquila Thunderblack? Are they the same as (Aquila-made) Kala Silver Rumbler, just rebranded, or they are more "sticky" like they say Thundergut are?

    Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

I was able to tighten the plug of my just-arrived Rumbler without having to cut anything. I loosened the strings, then inserted my (small) hand into the soundhole and kept the jack plug still from the inside while unscrewing the external pin and underlying nut. Then I screwed the inside nut with...
