    SPECTOR® Owners Club

I stopped by Guitars to be Played for a bit today. Man, those dudes are cool. I only left with a new GTBP t-shirt, but I played about $9000 of basses...two Spectors and a Dingwall. 😆 What I discovered is that both the Euros, a nice red LX and a transparent black Wimbish, have the same controls...

Double Bass Why the Puny Arco Sound from Stagg EUB?

HI Arguz, I know this is a very old thread, but I’m hoping you’re still active. I have a Stagg EUB and has all the same problems everyone is talking about. But one part of your posting is especially interesting to me….the settings on you Rumble 50. I have a rumble 100 and have been wondering...

Let's See Your Hot-Rodded Cheapo Basses!

I made some big moves to the bass that started this thread all those years ago! I acquired a new DiMarzio Model P pickup and had the body routed for an additional split pickup half to either side of the existing rout in the standard (i.e. Fender Precision) position and orientation. The new...

I have the same issue with the neck. I think dirt in the air gets stuck to it! Like you, more so that with any bass I've owned. I wipe with a rag, but often rub the neck on my shirt or pants in a pinch.

Welcome to nitro lacquer! My Les Paul Tribute was like that. After a while I took some 0000 steel wool to the back of the neck. It's much better.

Regarding your strap lock question, I keep one of these on my amp cord. It fits the bottom pin on everything I have from my Thunderbird to Fender to Guild to Schecter to Rogue, with the added benefit of strain-relieving the cord connector. Easy on and off, plastic so does not scratch the pin...

If other cleaning products don't address the stickiness, I would use a Scotch pad to satin-ize/de-gloss it. It feels much nicer (more like wood) and if it gets shiny/sticky again just repeat the process. Don't worry - it won't remove the finish - it will just dull it and hopefully address the...

Regarding the stickiness, I would change what you're cleaning with first, as it's an easy thing to try. It may be leaving a residue.

Hello guys I have a question regarding my newish Gibson Non reverse thunderbird. I am in love with the sound and the looks. It has been my main bass for a couple of months now and I love it. However, I want to ask you a couple of questions about it: -The neck gets a little bit sticky after 3-4...

    Sire Bass Club!

Yeah, that's same as mine. I only have very slight dive on mine though, able to deal with it with a strap that is a little sticky so doesn't slide. I too noticed a lack of authority on the tone knob. You are wise to replace those pots.

    Sire Bass Club!

My Sire P5R bass and mods arrived today!! 🥳 Initial impressions: Looks & feels beautiful 🥰 Body & neck are a beautiful caramel color 😍 Roasted neck is gorgeous to look at and creamy smooth to the touch. Body gloss finish is smooth not sticky. Played nicely out of the box but action was high...

Arturia MiniBrute v1 - The Second Time Around...

@erdyland , I did want to inform you (in case you haven't already tried my de-stickifying method; sorry I didn't mention it sooner!) that it may discolor the knobs/sliders/wheels/side panels to a degree. Parts of them may end up looking kind of bleached with an uneven tone. It happened to mine...

Arturia MiniBrute v1 - The Second Time Around...

I removed the knobs and sliders and soaked them in 70% isopropyl alcohol for about 5 hours in the sun, then used Q-Tips dipped in alcohol to make sure they were completely rid of the sticky residue. Then I used a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponge (plain, no cleanser) dipped in alcohol and carefully...

Arturia MiniBrute v1 - The Second Time Around...

I had one of these once and loved it, but I wasn't using it enough so I sold it to help fund other gear. I missed having it so much that I recently got another one - excellent condition with box and everything - but unfortunately "everything" included sticky stuff on the knobs, sliders, wheels...

    SBMM Stingray Short scale

Congrats on the new bass! Unless SBMM has changed things up, the middle position on the switch is the single coil. From your description is does sound like they changed that.

    SBMM Stingray Short scale

My StingRay from Sweetwater (Toluca Lake Blue) finally arrived today!! First impressions are very positive overall 🥰 Build & Finish The bass looks much better in person than the photos I saw online. The roasted maple neck is darker and richer than the Sweetwater pictures suggested, which is...

Opinions on Fender Flat wound Bass strings

I had the 9050MLs (50-65-85-100) on two P basses, my MIJ with ceramic pickups (too muddy) and my Vintera II 60s (just right). The change in tone after two months of playing was really dramatic. I think these strings work better on a bass that has some brightness to it ( abright P bass or a...

Winter Build Off 2026 - 5 String Fenderbacker

So I made a slightly smaller pickguard. I may make the larger one even smaller, or just use the slightly smaller one. Just obsessing over the details here. I also ordered a set of knobs and some 80 and 120 grit sticky backed sand paper for my "kidney" shaped sanding block. They'll be here...

Winter Build Off 2026 - 5 String Fenderbacker

Cut out the pick guard and took a pic of a mock up. It's starting to look like a bass guitar. I have to find or buy a couple of knobs, and some sticky sandpaper. And start on the control cavity.

Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

I had this with my Fender Rumble 100. That "soft touch" crap becomes "soft sticky goo" over the years and I despise everyone using it. Haven't looked at the knobs in detail, but if they're plastic with a soft coating, then you can pull 'em off and put them in a small bowl with isopropyl...

Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

Just got a used Legacy 800 head in great shape. Only one issue. The knobs are sticky - sticky enough that a tissue will leave bits behind. It’s pretty uniform across the black parts of the knob, but the white lines seem okay. It seems like something with the plastic/rubber. Has anyone seen...

    Broughton Audio Super Thread

The two choruses that I've had really good experiences with are the Providence Effects Anadime Bass Chorus ABC-1 and the Iron Ether Polytope. The Polytope is specifically a detuner, but it uses this to achieve a chorus sound. More on that below. ABC-1~ Pro: - Simple but effective controls. The...

    GOC or HILS basses?

Bumpity bump. Copied and pasted my initial thoughts on Basschat on the Hils HNB5 and quoted below. I've already got an Ibanez EHB1005SMS as a secondary bass that I like but don't love. It feels lovely to play, but I think I made an error getting the shorter-scale version, and those infamous...

    Fender Mustang Club

I posted about them in the strings forum. Long story long, I love them. They feel weird at first. You'll want to wipe them down with a microfiber cloth and maybe use some guitar polish or fast fret as well. They'll feel "sticky" for a few days and then they'll smooth out as your play. Also...

4x10 speakers sounds bad, but I don't think they're blown?

Yours too!!! If your profile image is one of your kitties. Agreed. That would be a crazy world to live in. Plug a 1 watt amp into a 10,000 watt speaker and it blows because it was under powered 😆 Or needing to have constantly matched amp output power to speaker rating, where they're...

new Sire z7 (gen2) is too hot for iRig HD2 input...alternatives?

Well, between getting sticky knobs on old iRig moving again, switching from going thru USB hub to direct to MacMini USB, installing Amplitube 5 on Mac, and switching from recording "mic" in GarageBand to recording "guitar w/optional effects", it now does not clip whether passive or active on...

    Tapewounds, Half Rounds & Pressurewounds

I used to be a Half-Rounds guy, but at some point it seemed like the wrap formulation changed. They felt sticky right out of the package, Yuck. Then someone here hipped me to Pressurewounds, and they've been my go-to string ever since. Great bite without ton of extra clanky high-end, and smooth...

Noisy Fender Jazz bass, Player Series

Many more expensive basses are not shielded, including vintage basses, which is why many vintage reissue bases are also not shielded: it's period correct. Nylon strings make noise if they are not grounded but the shielding should still be effective at grounding the player's noise. Factory...

Noisy Fender Jazz bass, Player Series

I bought a Fender Player 2 (jazz) bass which is now my only fretted four string electric bass. I bought it NYE several years ago and gigged it that night. It buzzed like a b******d. Lifted the control knob cover and…. Zero shielding. At all. I payed £1300 for a brand new bass you can’t gig in...

    Fender Rumble Club

Well, thanks for the welcome and info. I've been playing bass off and on since about 1971. Never owned a Fender amp of any kind til now. I was always drawn to the tuck&roll Kustom amps, and until recently my main amp was a K200B2/3x12 cab, which I love because it looks so awesome, but my last...

    Fender Rumble Club

Of course it’s ok! My Rumble 100s have smaller D shafts; the knobs pull right off. They appear to be 3/8”. I assume all Rumble V3 series use this type/size.

    Fender Rumble Club

Replying to an old post (hope that's ok!). I just became the proud owner of a Rumble 800 combo. I love it, but I reeealy would like to have witch-hat knobs just like those that Sox used. First question - are these just knurled-shaft push-on knobs? Takes a good bit of prying to get them off...

Strings for MTD - Ease of Playing + Less High End

First, try cutting high freq with the designated knob. Try adding low and or mids too. Some basses have a high mid freq center on the preamp and that may need to be cut, depending. Darker strings--EB Cobalt flats, DR Bure Blues or Fat Beams (I don't like the feel or sound of 1/2 round/ground...

Flats that sound like GHS pressurewounds?

That happens to me with Labella LTFs, they get sticky feeling. Not with Chromes. Supposedly wiping the strings with rubbing alcohol from time to time will reduce that sticky feeling? Maybe something builds up on the strings and that removes it?

Flats that sound like GHS pressurewounds?

This is the answer. However - Cobalt Flats have a feel situation that doesn’t work for everyone. The windings, which are flat, have tiny spaces between each wrap. This contributes to the unique tone but also creates more friction than you expect. It’s a sticky feeling to me, especially when my...

Want to try La Bella flats - LTF vs. DTF

I think that is fairly normal for the E string until they break in. Lots of people mention it for various flats. Regarding stickiness, I too noticed that with the LTFs but it went away after a couple months. Some people have suggested wiping the strings with rubbing alcohol to cut down on...
