    SOLD Fodera Emperor 5 Standard

Hello all, Up for sale in my Fodera Emperor 5 Standard. I purchased the bass from the original owner in 2016. Sadly, I came back from a year deployment in 2018 and discovered that humidity and climate affects finishes. As you can tell from the pictures it has 5 cracks in the finish. 4 of the 5...

Thanks for the replies so far. How would you suggest fixing the issue then? Is my only option a new neck?

    Washer/Truss Rod Advice Needed

Hello TB, need a little advice from you set up experts. Background: I bought a Rebel Relic Jazz bass, used, for over 2K about 4 years ago. When it showed up, I was blown away by how well it played, felt, and sounded. About a year into ownership, I noticed the action was creeping higher and...

Took me 30 years, but I finally get it: No one cares... what you play

I bet most bandmasters or audience members would prefer the $200 squire than the $5K Wal. What's funny, sad, and true is that I get way more compliments on my bass when I'm playing my Fender P than my Fodera (Little do they know that that "little butterfly thingy" means it's a really nice...

    Traveling with an expensive bass

Hello TB, Quick question for you all. How do people feel about traveling via heavier than air flight with an expensive bass? I have traveled before with my 76 P bass which has given me no bad experiences/hesitations because it's not original and probably would survive a crash better than me...

For me personally, I find that the way I can play outside the straight eighth notes and roots without being distracting is by being creative with rhythm and also parts. I think bass fills can really be distracting. But if you are doing consistent parts especially with an interesting rhythm it...

Thanks for the kind words! Me and some friends have done some worship workshops with various teams. The one common theme, which is super hard to break, is people over playing, while playing sloppy while not listening to each other. We usually do an entire workshop session on just roles of...

Tube stack for arena rock band!

A bit off topic, but if I were you, I'd also get a good mic. It is interesting how folks will pay several grand for a really nice tube head and then run direct to the house. What the crowd hears is a several hundred dollar DI. Why spend all that money if the audience can't even hear it...

Yeah I think it's a very subjective call from the worship leader and pastor. For each setting/player/style I think the line will be drawn in a different place. We have a B3 in our main building and rarely do we have the organ take a solo, while guitar solos are abundant. In gospel settings...

You could mute one of the acoustic guitars. That sounds harsh but that is what happens at most of our services with more than one acoustic. (Unless it is an acoustic type service) There is no need to have two acoustics both strumming out chords, it just makes the mix muddy. If the acoustic...

Indeed. To a lot of people electric guitars have no place in worship. For our worship sets, it fits well with the direction/style the worship leader wants to do. I do think that style and culture have a lot to do with it. If we do songs in an acoustic set or more liturgical setting, we...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

As long as a solo serves a purpose in the context of the song/worship atmosphere, I think they are awesome. If it is just someone's excuse to show off their chops in their own little world, then I could do without it. I'm not sure if anyone has heard Here in Your Presence and the guitar solo...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

On this note, it does kind of annoy me when hymns are modernized by putting them at 120 BPM, replacing all the chord changes with 1 4 5, and the drums do four on the floor...it is really a shame because the original hymns are very interesting musically. Sure they can be updated but to...

Roscoe Century 6 Buckeye! 34" scale

I just bought this bass a few months ago and immediately fell in love with it but coming from a 4 string to a 6 really started hurting my hand. I got it checked out and long story short I'm about to get surgery on the hand. Needless to say I think I'm done with 6 stringers. It is a 34"...

I play about the same style but just use less big fills. Some of our worship leaders really like bass to do a lot more than just hang on the root, so it does give me some freedom on bass parts, but I still try to steer clear of huge bass runs or fills in worship.

What do you say/do to a drummer changing tempo?

You could have him play to a metonome all the time. Even live if you aren't using IEMs he can have one ear in with the click and use a wedge for the other ear...not ideal but a lot of the drummers I play with will do this if there is no IEM system available. I'd imagine he probably could not...

Is it reasonable to ask for pay?

I would get a job and if you feel like the time commitment is too much then pull back. Sooner or later you'll need to get a real job, might as well be sooner. If you are going to make playing a career, playing at a local church wouldn't even cover rent. For someone who has hardly enough to...

We get this treatment a lot too. It's not bad though because our worship leaders are pretty good at articulating the feel that they want and the parts. If this happens they'll usually be pretty specific about what drum groove, bass part, guitar line, etc they want.

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

No we never hear the tracks unless playing live or to the CD. The scratch tracks are usually are just when someone writes a song and it hasn't been recorded in the studio yet so they sit down in front of their computer and record a simple track with their acoustic or a midi piano. They do not...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

We play with loops and sequences, but they have never been sent out to the band. The leader will usually just send the final mix; if anything, sometimes on a brand new song they'll just send the scratch tracks of vocals and acoustic or piano. When we do this, they'll usually be specific about...

Agreed, get the best instrument you can comfortably afford. It will last decades and probably will never lose value. If you have the extra cash and no other pressing financial commitments, I'd say pull the trigger. My first bass was a 75 P, I still play it a lot and will probably never...

Right hand technique or just not the bass for me?

A Roscoe is a completely different animal than a Rick. From experience, I doubt you are going to get the same action/set up that works on your Roscoe out of your Rick. The way Roscoes or many boutique basses that I've played are built to allow really low action, with really even frets and a...

Hello all, Had a really great Sunday playing worship. I usually play at our church plant which is a smaller, more acoustic vibe but my friend was leading at our main campus so I played with him up there. It was really great and finally got to play my big rig in big church! (normally I just...
