Yessir! I think for me too.
In other news, got a new to me Stingray Special today which has been a great addition to the family.
Only played with it through the D800+ today, but I played solid for 4 hours. What a beast! Next will be the BD800. I'm expecting to just barely survive the thunder.
For both of my Mesa heads, even when I have the Deep switch engaged, I always dial the HPF just enough to kill whatever boominess there might be given the room I'm in. Sometimes also a slight cut in low mids. Helps a lot. I never get any flabby sounding knows however, even on my low B string, no...
Yeah, definitely will want to try out the TT800 first, unless a used one comes up at a good price that is. Then I'll just buy it to try it out. The D800+ & B800D are both so good. Lol. Honestly I'll probably continue to be happy no matter which I keep.
Yes, I've thought about that before, too, but as long as I notice, sound and/or feel, and am happy, I'll play better because I'll be on a happy mood.
It's very true, though, how much is lost in a mix.
Yeah I just don't play nearly as often as I used to and I had JUST bought the D-800+ not even 6 months before the Bass 800D came out and I got sucked into the hype thinking I would just sell whichever I end up using the least but I keep going back and forth. Lol
I haven't had a chance to try...
Thanks, Andy. Makes sense. Does it more or less "feel" the same as the others? (Not that I should be worried at all, seriously, great job with all of these amps!)
I'm sure this topic has been covered just hoping somebody could give me a shortcut answer so I don't have to go digging through discussions. I own the top two pictured Subway heads and or completely different reasons I love them both. For simplicity's sake, I am strongly considering getting just...
I don't know if Don is still making his cabinets are not, but I stumbled upon a used Greenboy styled LDS 15/6.5/1 a year or two ago and I loved it so much that when another 12/6 popped up on marketplace I immediately bought it and paid for shipping without haggling price and without hesitation...
Dang, everything about these sounded perfect for me until I read about all the breakage. I've had DTFs on three other basses (short and scale top-load and long scale through-body) with zero problems. Wanted to try these on my 5-er but i'm a little hesitant now...
I have experimented running the 800D effects loop out into the effects return of the D800+. There are some differences to the feel due to I believe it was different damping between the two power sections. If you are playing through 15s or maybe even 18s or a big 21, it could tighten up your...
There is a set of audio clips on here, I can't remember who posted them, but they used high and low gain, deep and bright switches, and I can attest that with the high gain and a little bit of cut in the mids that it has the ability to sound very vintagey. Not quite as gritty as say the...
Same here. I did not expect ever for my D800+ to become a BACKUP amp! I think I still do prefer it for some darker, heavier stuff where I like the colder, more immediate notes.... And also somehow the woody acoustic bass sounds cleaner through it as well... But for everything else the 800D is...
Yeah I just got my D800+ earlier this spring and thought it would be my last amp head because I absolutely loved it. I still do. Then I found this stinking thread and was lucky enough to get the 800D early on. Took me a couple weeks to get used to it but once I did, man does that ever a...
@agedhorse
If you wouldn't mind answering this question. Both the 800D and D800+ are some of the quietest amps that I've ever had. Power at my place isn't the greatest and I have had a lot of noise with other amps, especially my older Yorkville D class which was still fairly hissy. I'm sure...
I love the hip so much and I'm so sad every time I think about it! I've seen them live so many times and embraced my heart that I'll never get to see Gord perform again. Gordon Sinclair's lines sound pretty damn good through both of my Mesa heads though!
Sounds perfectly fine at lower volumes! The input gain and Main volume knob are very usable with lots of control all the way from zero to 10! If that is an 8 ohm cab you would only be putting 400 watts into it anyways.
Sorry, the photo was taken a while ago while I was playing only with the BD800 but I have run my signal into the front of the BD800 out of its effects out, and into the effects return of the D800+. The most noticeable difference to me was that you still got all of the magic of the tube preamp...
Yeah those are very nice. They look comfortable.
Same thing happened to me when I found the well hung straps. They just have the perfect amount of the right kind of padding for me and every strap I've bought in the last seven years or so has been from them. LOL (because your straps have to...
Yeah the HPF is a very nice touch and very useful! My newest head however has a HPF so I don't really use the one on the pedal too much as it is a rare occasion that I wouldn't be using my head and cab and it's much easier to tune to the room when the knob is at face level instead of at your...
💯☝️
I'm on spot the neptunium just because of the aesthetics! LOL very happy with my finally however. I too prefer its functionality. And I think it's a better evolution from the nobelium and neptunium, functionality, for me.
That's odd. I typically just plug it in to the front end of the amp. Because I have the HX Stomp if I'm deciding to use my amp or cab sims then I will put it into the effects return so that it feeds directly into the power amp section of my head but I haven't had any problems whatsoever with the...
Came in earlier this week. My newest from https://reverb.com/ca/shop/well-hung-guitar-accessories
Matches my newest Sire Z3 splendidly! My whole guitar family is now "well hung". Highly recommend! I have a messed up shoulder and these have not only been the most comfortable straps I have been...
Was thinking the exact same thing. Turn off the deep switch and turn up the bass dial! I only like the deep switch at lower volumes or in conjunction with the high pass filter because they do some interesting things together!
I like setting my D800+ to 2ohm especially at lower volumes. With my BD800 I seem to prefer keeping the switch at the impedance that matches the cab(s).
I think people are just excited to post low numbers on a newly released product. Mine was like 130 something if I remember correctly I don't know. Nothing to be excited about! Ordered it through long and mcquaid.
I don't know how helpful I can be as I think they both sound articulate with plenty of low end and both have very useable mids to cut through. They both can sound warm, punchy, boomy or clanky depending on how you adjust them and both have HPF, Bright & Deep switches to add or take away anything...
Would probably sound better if the dials weren't all at zero! 🤣. That tone stack did take some getting used to for me. Spent more time with it and my D800+ and just like you said, they both sound like Mesa and yet they each have their own different thing going on that are both good.
Started...
