We have a bi-weekly songwriting get-together. Usually we have 2 or 3 groups of 3-4 people each and usually have some topic starters. Recently we had our first all day songwriting retreat as well. About 2-3 times a year we try and record a live music video for our original songs. It's been...

IEMs are one of the best upgrades for overall sound quality for everybody once they're set up correctly. A few points. 1. The hiss in your ears is to be expected. When you pipe the signal straight into your ears you're aware of all sorts of noise that has always existed, but wasn't really...

Two Notes Le Bass Players Club

Also, to add to others feedback, if you have a boost in front of the Le Bass, I find the Channel B becomes much more usable and fun to experiment with some light breakup. I will sometimes use my compressor to boost the signal to I can have more gain headroom to play with on the Le Bass

Churches where the members don't find a no-show unusual will inevitably have no-shows. There will always be somebody irresponsible around and it's the job of the WL to create a culture where it's not acceptable so they either learn to step up or are removed from the team.

I'd just have a conversation with him. Something like "Hey I noticed the drums sounded way different this week; did you do something different with the kick?" Have a conversation about what changes were made, see if he liked the changes, etc. Get his perspective on the situation. Then express...

The Easter Recording referenced below. On the conversation of tone, I usually opt for a bass heavy and tone rolled off sort of sound. I love playing my fretless P Bass with flats, so I like a tone without a lot of high end most of the time. On Easter I played my G&L which is my go-to when I...

    Worship Bass Pedalboards

This is SO ME lately... I love my board, but the longer I go the more I realize that for the most part nobody can really hear the difference between my straight signal, dirty channel on my Le Bass, Reverb on/off, chorus, etc. I've gotten to where other than my compressor, my signal stays pretty...

Good start, but sort of in reverse order of my approach. I would ask very broad questions to see how open and transparent he is starting with something like "So tell me a little history about your band and your gig" and see where he goes with things. If he's cagey and doesn't want to give many...

TBer priced the instrument well, the finish and attention to detail on the bass is top notch. Very transparent with all issues; packed well, shipped fast, all around great deal and would most definitely buy again from Instagator without hesitation.

I've been working on our church for about a year to upgrade our passive DI with some sort of bass preamp. We have about 6-8 various bassists that may play at some point, all with their own instruments and I am the only one with anything in the signal chain other than a tuner. Needless to say...

Yeah it was a great deal from a great TBer. Puts a lot of care into his instruments so I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

It depends on the type of skill. Personally I feel like my strongest skill in my playing is in hearing what goes well with the band, where to fit what I am doing with others, making suggestions to others on what might fit well etc. If a bass line is all over the place and really fast just...

That's what I always hear. I've gotten to where I rarely have to look anyway unless I'm shifting several positions or doing some long slides. I may have to put a few (non-permanent) side line markers to help early on, but I think I'll pick it up quick. Just have to woodshed a little more each week.

Wow, I haven't kept up with this thread in about 600 pages or so... Life's been good and still playing every couple of weeks. This week I'm starting again with doing some live sound. We have enough bassists I don't need to play as often and before I was a bassist I was a live sound engineer so...

I've been looking for an unlined fretless for several months and couldn't decide between ebony/maple. Seeing this beauty made the decision for me and I can't wait to get my hands on this beauty of a restoration job.

In a word, laziness... Laziness in songwriting in that it doesn't naturally suit itself to being "thrown into" the I-IV-VI-V progressions that are so common and lack of creative songwriters that construct thoughtful melodies and harmonies. Second is laziness with instrumentalists. Guitarists...

Yeah, rhythm might have been a better word than tempo because it was almost as if he would just drift around the tempo rather than consistently slow down or speed up. Regardless, I think it's just that "relentless" strum that causes the chaotic feel to some songs.

After just a brief listen, it sounds like your WL's tempo varies GREATLY throughout the songs. I'm assuming you don't use a click track? He would speed up/slow down his playing to accentuate his vocal rhythm and cadence. It's always difficult to tell who is causing tempo issues and who is...

I will note since I made the labels that extreme doesn't mean wrong or distasteful, just that his view is very "far from center" based on the popularity of the song and based on what I see most people saying about it. Very few people agree with his analysis even though it's very well thought out...

@Robroy Thankfully, the Super Bowl clarified this specifically for churches before Super Bowl 50 to allow them to display in their normal places of worship with their normal video equipment as long as they didn't charge admission.

While you're correct, generally the volume discrepancies between most AGs, vocals, and even EGs if they're amped and mic'd is usually enough you can (incorrectly) adjust the volume just using sliders and not touch the gain. The difference between a passive bass running direct and an active...

Last time I played was the first time with my new Le Bass preamp. I already send the hottest signal of all our bassists due to the G&L MFD pickups. I warned the sound guy my signal may be hotter this week since I was running it out of the DI built into the Le Bass and didn't know what the signal...

And in fact, this did go to civil court and a (relatively) small settlement was won. Sampling is extremely common in all sorts of music genres and generally requires either a flat fee buyout of that particular sample or giving writing credit.

Yeah, it's also all about value to you. Currently, I'm in no need of a gigging amp, only home practice, so my older Ampeg BA-115 is overkill. It's also huge and heavy and ugly. So I've been trying to sell it for a while without any luck, but I found somebody that will trade me one of the newer...
