Bi-amping Suggestions, Comparisons, Tips and Configurations

Reading the few previous comments on my exploration, I think the waters are being "muddied" by the crossover remarks. I understand that Genzler cabs have crossovers in them, but in my examples I am using two separate GK amps, each being fed the full signal (no crossover) from the two separate...

Bi-amping Suggestions, Comparisons, Tips and Configurations

. One benefit of bi-amping will be that I can add effects like chorus or an envelope follower to just the treble pickup and amp leaving the bass pickup and speaker unaffected and cutting through.

Bi-amping Suggestions, Comparisons, Tips and Configurations

Thanks - I am aware of that and plan to use bottoms without the crossover or simply unplug the array of 3 inch paper cones to defeat that for the bi-amping. Of course you can’t affect the 800 and above separately when bi-amped with the Genzler arrays connected. The mono demo above is going...

Thanks for that suggestion - was more focused on bi-amping and the setup as an electronics and sound engineering but you are right, I should move it there.

Here is Stanley Clarke explaining his own Bi-Amped setup. The idea I am going for is the miniature, lightweight version without the roadies!

Bi-amping Suggestions, Comparisons, Tips and Configurations

Hi, Over the next few weeks, I plan to post a series of videos documenting my findings as I explore different speaker combinations, amps and settings, and roundwound and flatwound strings on my stereo Stanley Clarke Brown Bass. Hearing is believing! I'll be using GK amps and speakers, Genzler...

    John Sauter needs help!

So glad to find this post. I own one of John’s whammy bar mid 50s modified Precision basses which I purchased was owned by Rusty Day’s and Cactus’ last bass player, and John’s friend Monte “Mondo” Thomas who lived with Rusty Day in Florida at the time of his murder and was working on a tour for...

    Show off those ~57-59- style sunburst/maple/gold p-basses

The 2nd of 3 gold guards I had the good fortune to own - 4/59 out of Emmaus PA. The owner played it on the early 60s Ed McMahon radio show out of Philly before McMahon went on Carson. He had been lugging his upright bass on the train til he got this one.

    Steinberger L2

The original L2s work fine in terms of the string tree and the screws. Can't speak to third party solutions. The reason they originally had them was that there weren't double ball ended strings on the market until the L2 was introduced and at that time, initially, Steinberger was the only string...

    Steinberger L2

Here is a picture of the string retainer and locking screws that allow any string, double ball or regular to be put on an L2. Many times they are lost. I used to cut the ends off with a wire cutter but a friend told me to use a Dremel tool to remove the excess.

    Steinberger L2

Right now they both have double ball. I took off the flats to try a set of Labella rounds. I can post a picture of the L2 string retainer showing the theaded holes and I will photo the short screws thart are used to lock in the strings.

    Steinberger L2

Only the L2 allows the use of single ended strings of any manufacture. I use Ernie Ball group 4 flats. The nut on the L2s has a set of screws that hold down any strings and you can cut or Dremel cut off the extra length. The XL2 does not have that capability.

    Steinberger L2

That's a great observation and one I found to be true for the L2. preamped Alembics and maple fretboard basses. They are less "forgiving" of imprecise fretting and fingers using more strength than needed. They amplify everything and require a more thoughtful deliberate touch. I saw Sting play...

    Steinberger L2

Hi, as mentioned, I currently have 2 L2s. Serial number 1002 and serial 639. Not sure of the total production of L2s before they introduced the XL2, but believe it is between 1400 and 1600 so they are rarer than the subsequent version. Great frets, straight necks, Active EMGs. Slap happy basses...

    Steinberger L2

Every bass has pros and cons. For travel, weight and sound L2s are exceptionally great. Very resonant and consistent sound up and down the neck. 8lbs. Easy to pack and if you get into it with a drunk, hit em in the jaw and keep playing. Will NOT go out of tune! They do take time to get used to...

    Steinberger L2

Hi, I got my first L2 while at Berklee back in 1982. Serial 1000 and sold it 20 years later because I needed cash and had stopped playing. Since than I have owned 4, 2 of which went to friends. I tried several XL2s which were in the 1500 to 1800 range (far more made) but prefer the L2 for the...

Fender Vintage basses, is anyone here paying or selling for the prices being asked?

Absolutely hate seeing warehoused vintage instruments but I guess those who can get more than they can play do so... The few I am fortunate to have, I do play out. Here is my all original December 64 candy apple red p bass. Super light at 8lbs 2 ounces. Amazing clarity and overtones. I also...

Fender Vintage basses, is anyone here paying or selling for the prices being asked?

Understanding values in the vintage guitar market is analogous to any other vintage market. Values can stay stable for years and than change on a dime. For those of us who play and collect, we don't pay a premium for a "better sounding" vintage bass or compare it to readily available modern...

Fender Vintage basses, is anyone here paying or selling for the prices being asked?

It is important to understand what and why you buy what you buy. It is also important not to overpay for things unless you enjoy throwing away money. Some people think paying five figures for an instrument, or 6 or 7 for that matter is foolish... generalizations.. Stradivarius instruments can...

Love the lightweight Custom Shop recreations. Have had half a dozen great players. Dale Fortune also makes amazing slab bodied p basses. Love that model and later 50s p basses vpwith the V neck profile.

Fender Vintage basses, is anyone here paying or selling for the prices being asked?

I have found every instrument can have unique sonic characteristics and feel but don't think that is why people like me pay the price for vintage. Having bought and sold for over 30 years, they have proved to be a great investment for me. I have never lost money on them. Of course, had I...

Fender Vintage basses, is anyone here paying or selling for the prices being asked?

If you have to have a 51 original p bass, be ready to pony up. Perhaps 30 made since production started in November. I've owned 4 52-54 slab bodied p's and paid upwards of 10k for each. Would do so again for a super clean all original. Same said for super clean anodized guard basses. Realize...
