    Preamp Help

So I need to replace the preamp in my Ibanez SR506. I would like to use the Bartolini HR-5.4 but I'm not sure if it will fit. It looks like it could be too big, but I can't find the measurements online. Any ideas? If not, what would be a comparable alternative? Thanks

    Improving an Ibanez SR506?

Does anybody know if the Bartolini hr-5.4 will fit in the SR506? It looks like it could be too big, but I can't find the measurements for the harness. If not, what would be a comparable alternative that would fit? Thanks

Double Bass Hearing what isn't on the sheet

One other thing to mention is that if the melody is being played, the substitution needs to sounds good with it. Something Ben Wolfe says to do is to learn to sing the melody and play a half note bass line. When you do this, you will be able to tell which subs will work and which ones won't...

Double Bass Bass and Sax Duo

Also, encourage the saxophone player to be supportive while you are soloing. He can play guide tones and little riffs that outline the changes that help a ton. Since it's just duo there needs to be a lot of mutual support.

*SOLD* AMT SP25B, The Best Bass Mic on the market

Did you already sell it? Also, what is your setup for using it live? I mean, how do you amplify it? Can you run the preamp right into an amplifier?

Double Bass Callus and rubber stopper on endpin problems

That's great! About the callouses, I think once enough layers of skin are calloused over, a shower or two won't be a problem. Until then you may just want to use a little extra deodorant. Really though, I try to not let the soap touch my hands to much because it is designed to take a layer off.

Double Bass Hard lesson - push yourself to be a better musician.

I agree that you should work on your reading. That would be the thing that would help you the most in terms of getting one of those gigs, if that's what you want. As far as getting better as a player, the best way to get unbiased feedback is to record yourself and then listen to it and think...

Double Bass hearing the bass line

Just learn the root movements like they are melodies. They aren't usually very sing-songy, but they tell you half of what's going on in the tune.

Yes sir, he is bad. I met him one time playing at the Showcase and was really impressed.

Double Bass Jazz Arco players out there

George Mraz Christian Mcbride Just a couple. Also, there is a cat down in Florida named Rodney Jordan who plays his butt off with the bow. There aren't a lot of recordings of him to check out, but if you're in Tallahassee some time check him out. He teaches at FSU.

    Double Bass ear training

I don't know. I think ear training in the car is fine. Not exclusively, you should do it in a quiet environment too, but I have gotten a lot done in the car driving to and from gigs. Besides, when you are in a performance environment there are other factors that can distract you that you must...

    Double Bass ear training

Why don't you just get mp3's of each pitch sustained so they won't decay and then practice singing all the intervals up and down from those pitches? If you can't find mp3's like that and want some, PM me and I'll send you some.

Double Bass Sound production on the Low E string

Yeah, sounds like it could partially be a setup thing, but probably more technique than anything. Try to use the weight of your hand/arm to get the tone you want instead of "hand strength." Avoid squeezing at all. Take at look at this video and the ones that follow as well. He does a good job...

    Double Bass Robert Hurst

I love Bob Hurst's playing! I would love to take a lesson with him and I'm envious of you guys that have. He's incredibly advanced in so many ways. He's got so much rhythmic and harmonic/melodic vocabulary it's ridiculous. I would like to know how he practices and what he works/has worked on. I...

Double Bass Ron Carter up tempo

Cool, thanks for the info. Maybe I was remembering incorrectly about it being part of that master class. I don't know. I used to have "Building Bass Lines" book, and I got some things from it, although I wasn't crazy about it. I feel like I could get more from just transcribing his lines...

Double Bass Ron Carter up tempo

Some time ago, I remember hearing Ben Wolfe say something about the way Ron Carter constructs up tempo bass lines. It was like a sort of "connect the dots" approach where he had certain target notes he was aiming towards and kind of filling in the in between notes with I'm not sure what. This...

Double Bass to play through the pain or not to play?

Get those lessons ASAP is my advice. I think you have to use your good judgement about the pain. Ask yourself, "Does it feel like pain that is due to weakness of certain muscles or tissue or due to my doing something wrong?" Try and relax as much as possible. Watch videos of players with great...

I remember Dave saying that I you could play anything in the 4 and anything in 3, then you can never be lost in any time signature. I hope that's relevant.
