Looking for a good instructional DVD

I've never really used any method books. When I started playing I could already read music and had a pretty good ear, so I just taught myself. Which is why I really want one now! So I can learn new stuff and work out some kinks and bad habits that I may have developed by teaching myself. I'll...

Looking for a good instructional DVD

Hey everyone. So I've been playing bass for about four and a half years now. I feel like I've learned a lot on my own, but now I feel like I'm at a stand-still and I haven't really learned anything new in a while. Now I'm looking for a good instructional DVD/book that will teach me some new...

Do Precision basses have noisy pickups?

Thanks for your help, everyone! And to answer some questions.... it's not my instrument cable or my amp. Cuz I plugged in my Schecter last night and it was quiet as could be. I also tried two different amps in two different rooms of my house, and I was having the same problems with the jazz, but...

Do Precision basses have noisy pickups?

Hey, everyone. Yesterday I bought a Fender deluxe active jazz bass from the Labor Day sale at GC. I brought it home and wasn't too happy when I heard that annoying electronic buzzing sound when I plugged it in to my amp (it didn't do that when I played it in the store. :eyebrow: ). I'm taking it...

How do you record a drop D or C bass line?

Drop A! :p Some death metal bands like Impending Doom and Whitechapel ( I'm pretty sure Whitechapel plays in drop A) play in that tuning. And yeah, most of the time its really hard to distinguish pitch, especially when you hear it live. But whatever, I dig that kind of stuff.

The Official "Show your basses" Thread - Return to the Octagon

I know, it's ghetto looking, but it sounds freakin' awesome. Found it at Guitar Center used for $500. Then I found the head used on Ebay. Nicknamed my cab 'Grandma's Couch.' Haha. :D (Above) I almost cried when I did this. :bawl:

How often do you change your batteries in your active bass?

Just curious. I've had my Schecter Custom 5 for about a year and a half and I've never changed the batteries yet. But it still has kept the same amazing tone from when I first bought it. Is this normal?

    The official Schecter Bass club!

I've never really played a Studio 5, except for one time at Guitar Center. But it wasn't that playable there cuz the action was set waaaay too low for my taste. But I own a Custom 5 and it is AMAZING. I've never had any problems with it. And the low B is BONECRUSHING. :hyper:

Fender Jaguar in a hardcore/metal band?

Haha, I'm not a tinkerer. I couldn't trust myself to take things apart, add things in, replace pickups, ect. I leave all of that to my local music store/technician. ;)

Fender Jaguar in a hardcore/metal band?

Maybe I'm just dumb, but what are 'pups'? Is that short for 'pickups' or something?

    The official Schecter Bass club!

I've got a Stilleto Custom 5 String in natural satin. Best bass I've ever owned. Everything about it is amazing! And ya gotta love them EMG pickups.

Fender Jaguar in a hardcore/metal band?

I've been looking at this bass for quite some time now, and I'm really thinking about buying it. But I play in a local metal band and I was wondering if this bass would fullfill my needs (I've actually never played a Jag but I've heard a lot of good things about it). We play in drop C, and I...

Want a second bass, what should i get?

Honestly I'm not sure about how the other ones sound (I've only played the one I have). Actually I take that back. I've played one of the Stiletto Extreme series in Guitar Center. I got tired of it really quick because of the very very low action and the nasty fret buzz i was getting (but of...

Want a second bass, what should i get?

Yeah, the Stiletto is one of the most beautiful basses I've ever seen. And it's got EMG pickups too! I'm not really familiar with the omen, but it looks pretty bad to the bone from the looks of it.

    CHURCH GIGS FROM HELL STORIES

My church is pretty chill for the most part. No exploding amps or preachers punching basses. Everyone gets along really well. But one time I was at a friend's church rehearsing for the Christmas program when the soundguy and the drummer got into a heated argument, throwing around words that...

Just getting started: 5 string or 4?

Its not impossible to learn on a 5 string. My first bass was a Squier 5 string P bass. But if I were you I'd try playing both a 4 and a 5 string before you buy one. In the end i think it all comes down to comfort and personal preference. (btw 5 string basses are really nice for improve)

Want a second bass, what should i get?

I have an ESP LTD F-154DX bass and its pretty freakin' sweet. But I guess it could kinda depend on the type of music you play. It's a good metal/hardcore bass for sure, and I got mine new for $350. But I also have a Schecter Custom 5 String bass, and I'm equally in love with it. I use it for our...

    Best Wireless System?

I just recently bought a Shure PGX system. So far so good. My band played a few weeks ago with it. And my guitarist used a borrowed Shure (a slightly older model from mine) from a buddy of mine. No problems, they both worked great. Its so nice to move freely around the stage! -ryan
