    Grateful for any help/advice!

I misspoke about "centered." I do set them close to the end as well. I simply meant they are inline at 17" and I deal with the intonation from there. Thanks for clarifying so that he did not follow my recommendation exactly as written. ;-)

    Grateful for any help/advice!

Centering the Saddles 17" from fret 12 is the right method for bridge placement with a 34" scale. There is a LOT of science in where the pickups "belong" based on the frequency your after and the wave pattern of the string. But the reality is your not gonna hate it anywhere in between...

    Air compressor for the shop?

+1 I have the Husky equivilent to that one and it is fine. You need a big tank so you don't use more ait than the compressor can make. It is ok for it to come on while your using it, but it should not run all the time. otherwise you will get buffeting / pulsing in the air to the gun and it...

    Tom Marceau Short-Scale Singlecut 31"

I subscribed just to see how this truss rod system works. All I have ever done is the simple Fender style skunk stripe one. This looks like it will be quite sturdy and adjustable when its all done. And of course the rest of the build looks amazing too.

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

Finished up the neck today. I leveled and crowned the frets. They are nice and shiny. Those are not flat spots, just glair. I installed the tuners. I did order flatheads to mount everything. But, I wish I had thought of ordering flat head screws for the tuner pegs. At least everything...

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

The upside is that you don't have to ruin the sewing machine. People have set calculators under the needle and lust put a stick in place of the needle that is just long enough to come down and hit the + key. enter +1 and then every time the "needle" plunges down it taps the + key, thus adding...

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

Hopkins counter is cool as hell too. I do appreciate utilitarian stuff. If you want simple, this one made from a Fishing Real is about the simplest; I have also seen several of them made out of Sewing Machines; Pretty much all you need is the ability to spin the bobbin steadily...

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

I had to special order the bits for the tuners. The Bushing takes a 47/64" and the peg takes a 9/16". The 47/64" plunge is only as deep as the bushing requires. The tip is a 1/2" pilot. Would have been great if it was 9/16". 19/16" through the center. And now everything fits. I have...

Cracked headstock. What glue to use?

That's why the Iron resides in my workshop. I don't need flat cloths but I need to in-dent wood all the time. :-)

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

I have seen that and its a pretty cool design. But, It is still essentially the same as the traditional split coil. It's just dressed up like a single. Most importantly, it does not allow for the 60/40 split on wraps to achieve more single coil pinch.

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

Update. After potting and cooling for a full day the Ohms now read 9.35. Yep, that will do just fine.:hyper: I am so behind on other stuff I am amazed I am getting this much done. I am even "multitasking" when I am posting here. It is amazing what you can get done on a conference call...

I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I am waiting for paint to dry and for a special drill bit for the tuner holes to arrive. Not much to do until then.

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

Two problems with the stock Tele single coil are; 1) It’s as noisy as any other single coil. And 2) The tiny .187" magnets are suitable for guitar pickups but not big ole bass strings. Leo probably only bought one size. Solution; stacked coil pickup with ¼ Inch Alnico V Magnets. One...

This is how I go from Bright White to Blond. 2oz Thinner, 3oz Lacquer, 1 drop TransTint Honey Amber Many thin coats to slowly build up the color until I get this. i am pretty satisfied with the resulting blond.

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

Thank you. I have been waiting for the weather to allow me to start tinting the body to get it to that "blond" state. The parts came in for the pickup so I have plenty to do while I wait for the paint to dry. Hope to post more updates soon.

    51' P / 68' Telecaster Bass

Thanks guys. I wound up routing the PU to .8 because I am building a stacked coil pickup that will be 1" tall. I will post Picts of that part when I get to it. So far I have the white base coat on the body. I used my modded LMI jig for the fret slots after 5. (Same scale as fender guitar...

I am building a Tele Bass for my first bass build. I am scratch building the Body, Neck and Pickup. I have several guitar builds under my belt. For this bassm I don't have much to reference other than the google. Which of course brings up Talk Bass ALL the time. I have built the body and...
