    I have a much newer contra ( actually it's a coda, but it's pretty much the same thing) than most of the people replying to this will have had. The GK sounds great, but definitely colours the sound, and is not as useful as a monitor as the sound varies from point to point in the room...

    I am actually looking for a new bag. I had a reasonably good producers carry all that I bought from Thomann, but the straps started breaking quite quickly and I managed to get it soaked in antifreeze this week. I'll keep you updated if I find anything. Peter Williams

    First 5-String: Ibanez or ESP?

    If it's your first five string all I would say is make sure you are happy with the string spacing. My first 5 string was too widely spaced. I ended up with tendinitis in the middle of a six month tour. I now have one with narrower spacing, but it feels clumsy when I slap.

    The best bass you've played?

    Mine was an Ibanez. Never even found out the model. It was such a modest lump of walnut with a bolt on neck that was slightly warped. 100 quid, my first bass. Oh how I miss her. So easy to play.
