Double Bass 34" Scale EUB - 1-2-4 or one-finger-per-note left hand technique?

You can get away with that with frets. On fretless you will have intonation problems (unless you just have big hands) until you reach the 2nd position.

Double Bass Seeking Guidance For Shipping Electric Upright Bass: Should I do it?

I'm going to be deployed in the military in a hot, dry environment in the Middle East, and I'm not sure if I should buy an electric upright bass to keep up the practice or if I should just continue mastering the bass guitar since I'm finally getting good at that, and put the upright bass in the...

    Double Bass Ibanez UB804 EUB.

Get it checked by a luthier. They may be able to fix the rattling issue. Sustain may be a technique issue, but you can get that check out too.

Double Bass Question Regarding Finding the Right Teacher and Learning Double Technique on Bass Guitar

So, from my fourth months of learning jazz, 1234 is definitely the staple technique. It's just on the first couple of first there's a lot of stretching or micro shifting for me to hit the notes. I tend to use 124 for octaves and fifths and 1234 for the rest.

Double Bass Question Regarding Finding the Right Teacher and Learning Double Technique on Bass Guitar

Looking back at this, I'm glad I've taken up both the Upright bass and Bass guitar and started studying in college. It opened up so many doors for me.

Should you "try" to stay away from open strings?

Those singers are low IQ and should know what key they're singing in.

Double Bass I'm Going to Have to Quit Upright For Now

I made a thread on the OFPF thing, and while it does cover more on notes the bass guitar, it still feels more akward than just shifting when playing notes. On a second note, I've just played upright this morning, and I love that thing so much I might just keep it and play for 10 mins a day till...

Double Bass I'm Going to Have to Quit Upright For Now

Isn't it better to forget everything and relearn with better technique? The two issues I have right now getting a stretched out pointer finger for playing two whole notes in first position and not having enough force in my arm to play the e and a string without buzzing. I might need to look for...

Double Bass I'm Going to Have to Quit Upright For Now

Right now my teacher seems more interested in teaching BG technique. There's no bowing involved, and he's more focused on teaching learning songs than learning more of the fundamentals of URB. So until I get extra funding for next semester, I cannot afford another teacher. Besides, they got two...

Double Bass I'm Going to Have to Quit Upright For Now

My jazz teacher is mainly making me focus on my bass guitar technique and repitore, so lessons aren't focused on upright bass too much. I'm getting too much hand pain from over playing snd and bad technique, and currently I can't afford private lessons till next semester . I'm going to save up...

Should you "try" to stay away from open strings?

Thinner strings has less low end. Compare playing open E vs E on a B string. I have seen people explain why they don't like using D and G strings on a bass on the forum.

Should you "try" to stay away from open strings?

The only time someone will complain is probably the BL or the bass player losing bass playing open G.

I've found this to be the case as well with flats.

    Double Bass Left Hand Weakness

I'm not sure if the bass is just crap. I had buzzing with lighter gauge strings before the finger board got redressed,so maybe I just have to live with it.

    Double Bass Left Hand Weakness

Nut is high on the E string. It was fixed before, don't know why they swap out the nut when they where dressing the finger board. I don't know what strings are on here, but they swap out the lighter strings I had with thicker flat wounds. I really only have a problem with the e and a strings...

    Double Bass Left Hand Weakness

I'm not sure if this have to do with my previous arm injury, but everyone keeps noticing that the buzzing sound from play URB is from not putting enough pressure on the strings(common issue with beginners). My teacher recommend I should do hammer on exercise to help build up muscles. Should I...

Double Bass Chromatic Notes And Being in Tune.

That's why I try not too look at my hands when I play. I find this comes easier when playing double bass than bass guitar.

Double Bass Chromatic Notes And Being in Tune.

I heard it's recommended to sit to force you to use more of your arm muscles. Is this true?! I've also gotten 360 solo string, and I'm hoping they're not too much of a crutch for playing in orchestrated tunning.

Using One Finger Per Fret And Being Uncomfortable

So many different opinions. Seems like there isn't a standard pedagogy for bass guitar like the upright.

Using One Finger Per Fret And Being Uncomfortable

Ironically, my bass teacher is saying I'm shifting too much for whole tones on the double bass. I think I need to work on my thumb position.

Using One Finger Per Fret And Being Uncomfortable

I'm not talking about octaves. My teacher is making me play bass lines with just the pinkey and ring finger to avoid shifting and build independence between the two fingers.
