1 Full Year Of Playing Bass, Am I Ahead Or Behind?

Problem is, my "band" isn't really interested in actually playing. I try to rally them, but they just don't love playing music enough. So all I can do for now is to learn new songs, and try to master them. Maybe someday I'll find some people to play with.

1 Full Year Of Playing Bass, Am I Ahead Or Behind?

I've been playing for a full year now, and the hardest songs I know to play without messing up is, Fly By Night- Rush, and I Wish - Stevie Wonder. Just wondering if I am ahead of the game, or behind it. And don't give me any of this, how far do you plan to go junk. I just want a straightforward...

    Best Bass Amp For $500

Genre is mostly classic rock/blues. Bass is a Yamaha RBX 800a, and soon a Fender P-Bass. Want at least 50 watts, like a more warm rich sound, want a combo.

Rock is finished - it has nothing more to say!

Oh no, Rock is certainly not dead. Its down, but not out. Soon, the revival of Rock will come, and Rock will rule music again.

What's the Best Bass For Under $500?

Rehearsal didn't go so well, bandmates were distracted, didn't really seem motivated, but not a total failure. We thought up some new ideas, and were able to get China Grove down(except the guitar and vocals). Still in desperate need of a singer though.

Very First Band Rehearsal- Any Tips?

I don't know, I've never done a rehearsal or anything of the sort. I was just asking what to expect and how it SHOULD go. We're trying to be an original band, but writing original music is tough, so we just want a mix of covers and originals for now.

Very First Band Rehearsal- Any Tips?

My band is going to have our first rehearsal in a few days, we've been practicing Doobie Brothers' China Grove, and our own 2 minute jig. Just wondering how rehearsals usually go, and what to plan for.

How Important Is 3 Finger Strumming?

I guess 3 finger walking would be a better term. Thanks for the feedback.

How Important Is 3 Finger Strumming?

I've seen many bassists use the 3 finger strum technique, or even 4 fingers, but is this really necessary? If so, when should I start to practice it?

    Amp Making Horrible Fart/Buzzing Sound

Just looked inside the bass, the black wire that goes into the battery was falling apart, and ripped when I gently took the battery out, I put tape on it, and put it into another battery. Still sounds the same. Probably should solder the wire.

    Amp Making Horrible Fart/Buzzing Sound

Yes, it used to sound fine at high and low volumes, but it slowly got worse, then I changed the battery on the bass, and it stopped. Was fine for 2 months, then the buzzing returned, and worsened quickly. I changed the battery again, swapping the Energizer for a Duracell, but the buzzing sound...

    Amp Making Horrible Fart/Buzzing Sound

If I turn my pickups volume(on the bass) over 25%, or my amp volume over 50%, its making a terrible buzzing sound, then if volume and pickups are turned even higher, its starting making a warped sound, almost like a bad distortion. I suspect that its the amps fault, but is there way to fix this...

Why Can't I Hear The Lower Notes When Playing With A Band?

Okay, 1 drummer with a snare, a kick drum, high tom, low tom, flat tom, closed high hats, and two ride cymbals. One electric guitar(Squire by Fender) playing chords, one pianist on a keyboard, and me on a Yamaha RBX 800a bass. With one amp each on the guitar and bass, recording through an iPhone...

Why Can't I Hear The Lower Notes When Playing With A Band?

Hey, I was jamming with some buddies: a pianist, guitarist, a drummer, and me, a bassist. My bass sounded good to the ear, but in the recording, you could not hear the lower notes, such as open A, or lower. However, the higher ones, such as open D or higher, were much too loud. What should I do...

    The bassist the unsung hero

I agree that the Jazz community does credit the Bassist the most, followed by Funk, and that's because they have found the best ways to incorporate it into the song. The more you hear it, the more you like it, whether you slap it, strum it or pick it. And as for being in a band, if anyone makes...
