    Short scale starter bass recommendations

How about the vintage modified Squier Jaguar, 30" scale,PJ pickups ,VVT controls, lovely slim jazz bass neck, only available now used but really great basses, I'd guess within budget too

I picked up a 2014 Mikey Way Squire Mustang a few weeks ago for a good price,I had been gassing for one for quite a while but they don't show up for sale too often so I jumped on this one. The silver sparkle has turned a shade of champagne gold over time it seems. It is slightly heavier than my...

Pics of you playing your bass - Part 3

Played at a small local festival last weekend with my SS jaguar, not often we get to gig outside so thought I'd get some sun on the surf green finish 😁

Exclusively play one type of bass

Thank you. The jaguar was originally black. I had it refinished in this green about 4 years ago, I think the black pickguard and headstock really suit it 😀

Both beautiful looking basses, particularly the 1969 with the colour matching headstock👍🏼 I know the jmj has big supporters but the real play wear and tear on these is much nicer to my eye at least.

Has the Squier Bronco bass been discontinued?

The step drill I used, each step was about 6mm, I had to go in from both sides of the headstock to completely get through

Has the Squier Bronco bass been discontinued?

I replaced mine with the tuners from my mexican pj Mustang. I used a step drill that went from 8 to 14mm in a pillar drill but I guess you could use a handheld drill if you was careful. The step drill does not chip the wood out like a regular drill bit would do. Good luck 👍🏼

I put Nordstrand NM4 picks in my vintera ii Mustang bass, there are 2 sizes, the bigger ones, which you must have bought, I believe are for 'made in Japan' mustangs. The smaller vintage size are for all others.

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Modded sonic bronco bass or the ' Bronco-Stang' as I call it. Modded with parts from a fender Mim Mustang, pickguard, pickups, tuners, refinished matching headstock. I even gigged it this week on a 3 hour set, as you say ,they really are the perfect low cost mod platform.

I quoted your post and thought I replied on my above post but I had not :meh:. I intended to say - Out of interest, which pickups did you go for, I like the sound of the stock ones but find them very low output, altering the pickup height did not change too much in terms of volume.

Thanks Felis, yes I did, the Bronco got new cts pots and switchcraft jack socket, the pickups, pickguard, tuners fom the pj mustang. Yes I did, I never used the J position at all and didn't want a toggle or blend knob so I filled it and had it refinished in metallic British racing green, this photo makes it look a bit like dark grey

After receiving my new vintera ii Mustang last week damaged, I am really pleased that the replacement arrived just today without any drama. It sits perfectly between my pj mustang and my modded bronco-stang.

My vintera ii arrived yesterday, damaged. I called store immediately and they have arranged collection on Monday and a replacement to be sent out. Cannot see how that got damaged, the outer box was untouched, it's in a padded gig bag wrapped in foam, so can only assume it was sent out already...

Yeah I saw that, I had hoped for a much better review to be honest, I ordered one in competition burgundy based on Fenders description and the pictures I have seen, I was swayed by the contours and reintroduction of the rosewood fingerboard, I have not tried one in store because nobody had one...

    Fender Vintera II !

My birth year is 1969, I have convinced myself that's close enough for me to get the 70s competition burgundy mustang bass. I read somewhere the originals were contoured from 1969 to 1981 ? I am in the UK and have one on order, stock due here very soon I am told. I am super happy with my pj...

New Squire sonic bronco bass upgrades

The new sonic series Bronco has a four saddle bridge, making intonation make accurate, improved tuners and different colour options to the older ones, which came in Black or Red, new ones you can still have Black but now with a laurel fingerboard or Tahitian Coral, White and a Purple. The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

I I've got one of the new sonic broncos in black with the laurel fingerboard, I did used to have a 2007 early bronco, I upgraded the bridge to a four saddle one, fitted a hot rails pickup but left the tuners as they were, they did hold tune perfectly well but they felt cheap and I was never a...

I fitted some Hipshot HB 10 tuners to my Fender pj mustang , mainly for the weight saving to cure a little bit of neck dive, the stock fender Mustang tuners are a perfect for for the bronco, the holes need increasing from 12mm to 14.9mm ,I used a stepdrill to 14.5mm then finished off by hand...

Yes, I'm impressed for the price. No sharp fret edges at all, nut cut well, action was super high but a set up rectified that. Tuners are better than previous broncos, intonates perfectly with the new 4 saddle bridge. If I'm being picky, the back of the neck feels a little rough, only a bit ...

Earlier today, if arrived. First impressions, very good. No blemishes in the body paint, no sharp fret edges, nut appears to be cut well enough, tuners feel nicer than earlier broncos but still have small sized split for the string to sit in. Truss rod was spot on, the action was high, so I...

Has the Squier Bronco bass been discontinued?

So this is the plan. The control plate has to be larger than the Fender Mustang as the rout for the Bronco controls is a different shape. The shape for the new Bronco control plate I got from a printable PDF I found online from someone else who had done this mod before. I may have jumped the gun...
