I only have 3 basses, all short scale, two Mustangs and a Squier VM Jaguar

Both beautiful looking basses, particularly the 1969 with the colour matching headstock👍🏼 I know the jmj has big supporters but the real play wear and tear on these is much nicer to my eye at least.

The step drill I used,each step was about 6mm, I had to go in from both sides of the headstock to completely get through

I replaced mine with the tuners from my mexican pj Mustang. I used a step drill that went from 8 to 14mm in a pillar drill but I guess you could use a handheld drill if you was careful. The step drill does not chip the wood out like a regular drill bit would do. Good luck 👍🏼

I put Nordstrand NM4 picks in my vintera ii Mustang bass, there are 2 sizes, the bigger ones, which you must have bought, I believe are for 'made in Japan' mustangs. The smaller vintage size are for all others.

Modded sonic bronco bass or the ' Bronco-Stang' as I call it. Modded with parts from a fender Mim Mustang, pickguard,pickups,tuners,refinished matching headstock. I even gigged it this week on a 3 hour set, as you say ,they really are the perfect low cost mod platform.

I quoted your post and thought I replied on my above post but I had not :meh:. I intended to say - Out of interest, which pickups did you go for, I like the sound of the stock ones but find them very low output, altering the pickup height did not change too much in terms of volume.

Thanks Felis, yes I did, the Bronco got new cts pots and switchcraft jack socket, the pickups, pickguard,tuners fom the pj mustang. I had to make a control plate to cover the bigger control cavity on the bronco body. The pj mustang has hipshot hb10 tuners, dimarzio pickups and a new pickguard...

Yes I did, I never used the J position at all and didn't want a toggle or blend knob so I filled it and had it refinished in metallic British racing green, this photo makes it look a bit like dark grey

After receiving my new vintera ii Mustang last week damaged, I am really pleased that the replacement arrived just today without any drama. It sits perfectly between my pj mustang and my modded bronco-stang.

Yes it did fit the same spot, nothing has changed with the Volume and Tone pots or control plate apart from I removed the J pickup and wiring.

Mine has shielding paint but still had a hum. Copper shielding tape made it completely quiet.

I fitted a P pick-up and Mustang pickguard to my Bronco sonic series. I had to remove about 5mm of wood either side of the existing cavity.

Just for reference I just weighed my mim fender pj Mustang - 7.54 lbs and my Squier short scale jaguar - 8.62lbs, the extra weight of the jaguar is instantly noticeable switching between them
