Fender Mustang Club

Stoked to apply for club membership as soon as I have some photos to share! But first I have a burning pickup question.

Lollar vs Novak vs CIJ pickups.

I’m trying to get closer to the CIJ output & top end with my new ‘71, which is a bit too dark & low output for me right now.

Has anyone had experience with how these 3 pickups compare, and which of the first two is closest to the CIJ? From all the clips I’ve heard, Novak or Lollar stand out as likely the closest to my ear.

I finally decided!
These two little rascals will come with me to a gig tomorrow for the first time since both have been modded with a Nordstrand pu and new wiring.

The white is strung with LaBella 760F flat wounds and the sunburst with DR Hi Beams shorts. I will not only change basses during the gig, I'll also downtune to D and back to E again. Feels like work...

The surf green Mustang is sold as is.

Sorry I missed this one!

Welcome to the remuda, @Sparky Mark! - you are member #137. And thanks to @2cooltoolz for alerting me!

posted an in depth take on the new vintera ii below for all those interested. overall positive, but the pickup sound and neck dive are the biggest detractors. esp love the contours.

Yeah I saw that, I had hoped for a much better review to be honest, I ordered one in competition burgundy based on Fenders description and the pictures I have seen, I was swayed by the contours and reintroduction of the rosewood fingerboard, I have not tried one in store because nobody had one , I hope I don't regret that decision, it has not arrived yet but when it does I'll post pictures and a review.

sorry to be a negative person, but I think most of my concerns can be allayed by a good setup (i.e. proper relief, action, pickup height) and I think had I taken it home and done a setup I would have liked it much more!

My vintera ii arrived yesterday, damaged.
I called store immediately and they have arranged collection on Monday and a replacement to be sent out.
Cannot see how that got damaged, the outer box was untouched, it's in a padded gig bag wrapped in foam, so can only assume it was sent out already done ??.
I packed it back up soon after opening but did give it a look over and plugged it in.
Initial thoughts, quality and build felt excellent, neck relief was good, string height too high and intonation was out but nothing that half an hour wouldn't fix.
Minor hum on full volume, pickups not very high output, maybe pickup height needs raising.
I hope the replacement they send out is not damaged, time will tell:bored:
