This is my modified Intercontinental Music "Baron" 5 string bass so far. My total financial investment approx $314: Bass/materials/new D'Addario's/best quality input jack & taxes. Of course there has been several hours of "fun" invested!
I think I am done with the design - just need to sand, file the frets and prep for stain/finish. I temporarily installed the hardware and took pics. When I permanently install the tuners after completion, I will "fan" them like in the pic (they were originally installed "straight").
Thank you for your feedback bassbenj! You make a good point about the balance - I will grab my strap and check this out (temp put on hardware/electronic circuit for weight etc. - the bridge is quite heavy). I noticed that there are untapped wires on the active module that came with the bass. My...
Thank you JRA! Here is what I have completed so far (round 2 last night). Unfortunately I do not have all the tools I require and had to "improvise" a little. Hopefully this evening I will complete the sanding (upper and lower horns) and fret conditioning (sharp edges).
Yes, crazy prices! Most of the reviews for the store on Google are negative. When I went there I did not see any "name brand" items like Fender, Ibanez etc. I remember this store was called "Continental Music" back in the 70's and was located on Rideau Street (downtown Ottawa). Back then they...
I spent a few hours today working on this bass. I straightened the bottom of the body (bridge location) similar to a Rybiski classic, modified the head to a custom design and started working on the lower horn (shortened it so far - more work to do) along with "shaping" the back (contour).
I recently purchased (last week) a "neckthru 5 string" bass from a music store in Ottawa. I would normally not shop at this store but they had a "Retirement" sale. I paid $226 (tax in) for this bass (normally selling for over $800...***?). I wanted a project so this fit the bill. I have pics of...
Hello everyone! I am looking at purchasing a Mark Campellone 5 string bass but know nothing about the builder other than he only made around 100 basses. I am not a "financially wealthy" musician but wanted a bass no one else had (like my Alfonso Iturra bass...wish I never sold it).
This bass...
Thank you very much everyone for the replies! I am selling the "Tiger Eye" and wanted to show the buyer the serial. I had not checked behind the electronics cover - I will do this today.
Cheers eh!
I have 2 Cirrus 5 strings - one has a stamped serial in back of the head but the other (newer) does not have a serial number that I can see on the neck. It is a "tiger eye" with birds-eye neck - looks like a custom shop build. Does not look like the serial came off.
My question is: Is there...
I now use an Ibanez Promethean P5115K for playing venues. I like the sound versatility, light weight and good low-end response. My main bass and backup are a USA Peavey Cirrus - fantastic basses!
I found a new "old stock" MTD online from a music store about an hour away from my place (no price listed). I did my research on this model (reviews/prices/features) and found a few online stores selling them for approx. $1500 cdn (then there is the shipping cost, duties, taxes etc.). I called...
I am interested in a Vogel 5 string bass but cannot find any reviews on these basses other than a thread in Talkbass regarding a 6 string that was for sale. I think they are made in Germany but not sure. Anyone have one of these basses and can offer their opinion or have information about them?
I checked it out this evening. I was impressed with the look but the condition was not what I was expecting. The back had lots of mileage on it - I think it is a 90's bass. The action was way too high as well. The neck looked straight but judging by the saddle height, I had no room to adjust the...
I found it locally (add) but they only have one. What do you think it is worth (looks like very good condition in pics and apparently good neck but I have to check that)? My previous main back up was a gorgeous Jon Hill Huntington Standard but unfortunately it had a neck issue (truss rod froze)...
Hey everyone. I need a good backup bass now that I have sold all but my loved Cirrus for live shows (just started playing live again). I have never owned a Washburn bass and I like the look of the XB925 and the fact that it has Barts. Are these good basses as far as construction and reliability...
I had GAS for one of these basses for a few years, got a "minty" one, set it up, played it and now it is for sale. I just can't get used to a 4 string after playing 5 string since 87"!
I have a nice Jon Hill bass for sale, I do not play this one at all. I can include a tweed style case with it but shipping from Ontario could be pricey. The overall condition is very good - a little scuffing on the back at the neck junction. It took quite a while for the neck to "relax" when I...
22 Fret: http://www.kawaius-tsd.com/pages/kawai_bass.html
I weighed it using my digital scale (me and bass then without) and it came out around 9.5 pounds but that is not 100% accurate - it may be more.
The action and feel are good. I can measure the string distance. It is all original except for some foam I placed under the pickups. There are 2 long screws and 2 short screws for each pickup at opposite corners. I have never seen this type of configuration before and added foam as well. I...
I had GAS for one of these basses for a few years. Once I finally got one, I put new strings on it, set it up and was impressed with how well it played and the tone options (not to mention how cool it looks). I was able to relieve my GAS lol! I wish they made one in a 5 string version.
I have...
I have what I believe to be a mint Kawai bass or very close. I am a 5 string player and can't get used to a 4 for even one song - this bass deserves to be played IMO. I am asking $600 (neg) without a case. Buyer will have to pay for shipping (I am in Canada).
Update: The bass has sold along...
I just bought my first Kawai today (been looking for a few years) - it is an absolute beauty! I think as close to mint as you can get without being brand new and not played. I am replacing the strings (I think they are the originals) and doing a setup in the next few days. I am just curious on...
Hey all, I just picked up a newsed trans black Yamaha TRBX 505 (although it is more of a solid mat black finish) this evening for $300cdn! It has hardly been touched. This is a very nice bass for the money - very solid and nice construction. I also like to the look of the 505. I have read good...
Hey all, I have an issue with my GK NEO 115 8ohm/400W. The other night it started to "smoke" - the piezo gave out. I use a Peavey Cirrus thru a Markbass LMIII head. I want to upgrade the piezo replacement (not stock). Does anyone know of a decent replacement for my cab? This cab has very low...
I just got a Markbass LMIII and paired it up with a G&K NEO 212 - sounds great with the little time I have spent with it so far. The 212 cab is a nice size but light weight (that was what I was looking for).
Hey thanks everyone for all the replies! Excellent info and helped with my decision. After doing some more reading (reviews etc.) I decided on a Markbass LMIII - one just came up for sale locally. I actually just finished informing the seller I would take it - $400. If all goes well I will pick...
