    Headless Club???

I’ve posted a bunch with the knobs facing straight up :) the tuners come with a tiny magnetic wrench you can use to help when the knobs are too difficult to turn with just your fingers. but, right. not a slight angle, not the right knobs! also not the right thread but I’m happy to hand out...

    Headless Club???

I have both of those in addition to other. I probably still have 4 or 5 different ones left... I did mention not remembering why I didn't cut that bass up... Could have been bridges!
  3. W

    Headless Club???

Probably just getting the bridge height right and having controls in usable locations. And I wasn't confident enough in my skills to get things right. With the Schecter I didn't care if it didn't work out but thankfully it did! I get a little bit better and more confident each time I chop off a...

    Headless Club???

Although.... IIRC I was also having trouble with the NS figuring out how I'd make it headless. But that was months ago so who knows???

    Headless Club???

I almost had a headless Spector NS but I wasn't thrilled with the sound and the bass looked too nice to cut up so I traded it for an ugly ESP and chopped the head off of that one instead. I'd be happy to help behead a bass. Heads are for suckers as I always say (just ask me)...

    Headless Club???

And headless! Anyone wanna buy a head??? This one turned out better than the last one and I have the perfect bag for it - one that might just barely squeeze into my trunk.
  7. W

    Headless Club???

I didn’t like how it sounded. I sold it and got a schecter. I like most of the sounds and have a bass for the bits this one won’t do anyway. And… I’m not a big fan of the colorway so if I mess things up I can just spray paint over it and not care too much. Process: See which bridge will be...

    Headless Club???

OK! Getting ready for the next head-echtomy... I have an ESP LTD AP-4 (EMG p'ups in PJ, reverse head) that's going to be my next victim. I just need to decide which bridge I'm putting on it. I've got 6 right now with 2 sets of Guyker individual tuners, a silver ALP mini, the Nova I just bought...

    Headless Club???

It’s a really cute tiny magnetic Allen key that sticks in a slot on the side of the bridge.

    Headless Club???

I have (had) three of these. I did not have to route to get them to work but I did have to disassemble and modify the intonation wheels on one so that I could get the action low enough. The work was not significantly more difficult than adjusting for action and intonation on any other guitar...

    Headless Club???

Fingybass is going up for sale if anyone is interested. It's great for slap (really!) but it's not great for how I play or what I will ever play. For now I'm sticking with the newly headless mockingbird and the steinberger spirit. PM me an offer? It presents as new because I never really played it!

    Headless Club???

I don't see four stringers on their site. Do they do these in full scale, too? Just wondering! Looks nice!

    Headless Club???

My bass teacher made me do it to mess with people :) It’s not great up close but it’s fine from a distance - pretty much like the whole bass.
  14. W

    Headless Club???

Tuning is easy - just twist the knob and if it gets difficult it comes with a tiny Allen key held to the side with a magnet. Action was more difficult and required taking it apart. Intonation is easier than action - loosen strings and move things. There are 2 holes for gross intonation but a...

    Headless Club???

Largely complete. Cute and fun and it works better for me. It isn’t perfect looking but the sound is awesome.

    Headless Club???

After I finish with the action :) I've turned the round thingies as low as they will go... Now it's playable! Still sounds great... But I think I want to lower it a little more. I'm going to have my machinist pals look at things with me to decide on the best course of action. I mean... If I just...

    Headless Club???

It's a MIK BC Rich Mockingbird Classic (maybe a heritage classic? I sort of have already cut pieces to pieces)... Looks real to me. Sounds real to me ;) It's an amazing bass. One of the owners over the years upgraded the hardware to some nice hipshot stuff (now in a bag in my garage) and the...

    Headless Club???

I took it apart. The adjustment screw only worked one side of the wheel and then there was a set screw. I turned the wheel over so that now I have two set screws. It’s pretty close to dialed in and pretty close to sounding right. I’m sure I’ll have to mess with the intonation a bit more but this...

I feel we would have that action issue again... I'm examining things and thinking about it!

    Headless Club???

I have the guyker and actually quite a few others of various styles. Those all have the tuner knobs below deck height except for the overlord ones so regardless I’d have to cut into the deck…Unless the guyker is the one that got a bit damaged in my reverse upside down bass. Although that one...

    Headless Club???

well, that was my first inclination but it is a bit irreversible and I’m still kind of mostly reversible at this point! I’ll try taking the bridge apart first and see what I find…
  22. W

    Headless Club???

that’s thru so I may need to dismantle and lower as mentioned. I’ll have to think about it…
  23. W

    Headless Club???

Drilled some holes and put an alp tuner on a mockingbird prior to cutting the head off. I can’t get the action low enough and probably need to route the bridge into the body. I’m not looking forward to the work… A good deal of the neck dive issue was resolved. It still sounds great - it’s just...

    Headless Club???

Well, it's a step in the direction... That's how I'm converting my mockingbird to start with. Up to that point it's reversible... But I am hoping to fit mine in my (small) trunk so I'll have to cut the head off at some point.

    Headless Club???

I was waiting for someone else to update the thread before replying to myself :) Of course taking a steinberger in a van works fine. I wasn't bothering anyone else (headphones!) and got in plenty of playing. Bonus: my teacher was seated next to me and was correcting my playing just based on what...

Ahem... You looking for a Spirit? 5 string? Soft case OK? I mean... I bought one from Sweetwater and it is for sale. I'm sure I can give you a great price.

    Headless Club???

Road trip! Driving 12 hours with coworkers over the next week - 4 of us in a van. I'm hoping to take my steinberger and my boss headphones and maybe to play a lot. I guess I'll let you know how that goes in a week!

    Headless Club???

Ha! I have a few (awesome) bike racks... The best idea I've heard so far on this subject was making a hole from the trunk into the cabin - between the seats. I will think about it. But first things first -> we're in the headless thread so we have to consider the very real possibility that this...

    Headless Club???

It won't fit even without a head - in a dingwall bag or something like it. Well, my steinbergers fit great! So does the fingybass in a bag. Looks like the dingwall will fit, too, just not with a head and never in that case.

    Headless Club???

It's a funny thing that you should phrase things that way because I have owned a good number of clown cars... Let's see... Four of them! And when we had small town parades in our small town I would drive the neighbor's clown car - a clownier version of my own. Theirs was just like this one...

    Headless Club???

As expected the dingwall is awesome and doesn't fit in my car. I know it would be sacrilege but it would sure be nice to have it fit there... Maybe next Monday I'll stop at Hipshot on the way back from watching the eclipse and just have a teeny tiny chat with them...

    Headless Club???

Oooh. Speaking of which... Many of you already know that I was posting progress pics on some of my headless contraptions over in luthier's corner. I really like the design and playability of my first build - I just don't like the terrible job I did on the woodworking. But it has playability and...

It's really easy to play - I love fanned frets! It's gorgeous as all get out... The balance is absolutely perfect. Let's see... They're made in Poland by MihaDo. Here's a facebook page (you shouldn't need to log on to see lots of pix): FingyBass by MihaDo Guitar Studio | Wroclaw The bridges...

    Headless Club???

Um. PsFA? This time that should work because I'm on an actual computer... Fingybass, spirit drop d, mockingbird, EUB, spirit 5 string (for sale!) and home assembled thing.

    Headless Club???

We’ll see I guess! I don’t actually have the dingwall in my hands just yet… I was planning on beheading the one that sounds better and probably selling the other. I really do like the mockingbird - it sounds incredible - but I don’t play it. I like your work - did you do it yourself or have a...

    Headless Club???

Hi. I’m a headless guy. (“Hi headless guy!”) presently with, um, 4 complete and parts for maybe 3 more. I’ve sawed the heads off of three cheap basses at this point and I’m contemplating my next victim… I think this time I’m going to start with setting up the tuners and making sure that’s all...

107 hours from when I sent my first message of interest to the time I was playing this bass. Seller was polite, courteous, happy to help at every step and to give pointers on playing. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.
