1/2 inch lightweight plywood?

No BFM cabs use thicker than 1/2 inch, including pro-touring concert grade subs, like the Tuba 60. Some models of BFM cabs are made of 1/8 and 1/4 inch. It's all about the bracing.

I get Sandeply at Home Depot. It's really light and with some well placed bracing makes a very solid cabinet.

I made this cabinet out of Sande Ply from Home Depot. It was for a 2 x 15 which I had to sell because of money trouble (the story of my life). In this state, it weighed 19 1/2 pounds.

That is encouraging. Looks like a little less plywood than I will be using. the head weighs about 15 pounds, the driver, maybe 12, tolex, casters, corners, and side handles maybe another 5. If I can get it down to even 65 pounds, I'll be one happy camper.

Is that 3/4 inch ply?

the Fearless blueprints will probably give you some ideas for the bracing- they're pretty simple cruciform braces, along the centerlines of the sides and back. I don't have an easy way to measure how much the sides are deflecting, but at least at stage volume levels it seems to be working dandy.

Plenty stiff, no issue at all. I like to place braces at the edge of scoop handle openings. That gives me more meat to hit with the handle screws.

Are you planning to reuse all the hardware from the current combo? Just duplicate the carcass to reduce weight?

Yep, that's my plan. I'll even double the thickness at the very front so that it looks original. I have a friend who is great at tolex too

I've used aircraft grade plywood. It was made out of spruce.

Well, now we need to get into what's the best spruce for a bass cabinet - Lutz, Sitka, Engelmann, Adirondack, etc........................

It must depend on the type of music it will be used for.
