Double Bass 1/2 size bass and volumn

I don't have much of a choice, I am 5'2", my hand cramps when I play a 3/4, I find it much easier to handle a 1/2 size but I am lacking volumn, is there anything I can do to get volumn and keep my 1/2?

An optimally setup bass will have more volume that a poorly setup bass. If you haven't already, you could take it to a luthier familiar with basses and tell him/her what you want. Proper soundpost and bridge location can make a big difference. Also some string sets are louder than others. But all things considered equally (proper setup), a 3/4 size bass can almost always be louder than a 1/2 size bass.

The other thing you could do would be to amplify the bass by either a pickup or a microphone. Then, it could be as loud as you like.
