I saw him as well, and although his playing speed is remarkable, the fact that he's a bit of a one-trick pony with it gets a bit old. At the end of the show, Satriani, Vai, and Malmsteen jammed to a few Hendrix tunes, and I didn't find that Malmsteen's neo-classical harmonic minor runs were particularly conducive to the feel of the music. Having said that, I'm pretty sure that I'll never be able to play either guitar or bass at that speed.

As far as Jaco goes, I'm not a big fan of his attitude either. However, I listen to him because of his innovative playing, not because I think he'd have made a good friend. Whether or not I would have liked him as a person, I can still learn a lot from his approach to bass playing.

Depending on the size of the gang, I would likely agree with Tim.

Even if Yngwie is "the best at what he does," which I can't really understand because I am not really sure what it is that he does, that doesn't mean I should like to listen to him.

I would never discount his ability, but once you get over the appreciation for the mastery of his instrument (which for me, takes about one minute) IMO, his compositions are self-indulgent ramblings void of soul or character.

To a lesser extent, I would say the same for Satriani.

I'm much more interested in someone like Steve Vai, who gives up little or nothing to those two in technical mastery, but brings much more creativity to the mix.

No doubt he has the skill, what he is lacking IMO are restraint and taste.

Mindless, 3 million notes a mile wanking, and I don't care for bass players that do it either.

Just so it's not taken the wrong way, The Jaco/Bailey story made the Primus tune pop into my head. Yngvie, Satch and Vai generally make my ears bleed
