10" replacement speaker (sealed)

Hi

I'm after any replacement speaker recommendations for a blown 10" mid driver in my cab. Currently I have a 15" Eminence 3015LF with a crossover to the 10" at 200Hz. The 10" is a sealed enclosure of 11.7 Litres. I'm looking for a 8 ohm replacement for the 10" Celestion BG10T-150 (don't think they make this any more, also I think I need something a bit beefier).

Well, you don't need a bass driver when you're filtering it like that, but I'd still keep an eye on fs/impedance peak in the low end. You're not much more than an octave above it and it could throw off your filter. If it's first order, it really isn't blocking that much lows down there either, could've thermalled your old one. I'd just look for something loud enough to hang with the LF, and maybe filter it a little steeper. Raise the crossover point a little bit and you can look at guitar drivers if you want some grit/breakup, otherwise PA drivers for clean mids.

I run a 4x10-2X10 rig,full range to the 4x10(Aguliar) and cross the top box in at about 120hz.Currently the top box is loaded with Peavey BWX 10"neos.They take a ton of power and, being on top of the 4x10,I can hear myself over the Marshalls and drummer.The box is tuned a little higher, I think the Peavey's fs is around 60.Its very clear and clean,if that's what you're after.Eminence Delta 10's might also be a good choice.

If you want a 10 that will work in sealed cab that small and still be able to take some juice, than your best bet would be eminence kappa pro 10 a or simillar high power mid-bass driver. anything else will be fried when crossed that low.

+1. Crossing a 3015LF at 200Hz is wasting two octaves of its range. Go to 800Hz, use a guitar ten or even a six or eight and get a lot more upper end extension. In that small a sealed box crossed that high the specs don't really matter, I'd only consider the frequency response.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've bought the parts for a new 1st order to lowpass the 3015LF at 750Hz.
Still pondering the 10" driver, my amp is putting out 600watt at 4 ohm, I want to get something that can handle the power..not really sure if it matters as much if i'm filtering off alot of the low end to the 3015LF.

I don't think 1st order is enough to tame the 3015LF's upper peak, or get it out of the way of the next driver enough. I'd figure a 2nd order lowpass, then the appropriate at least 2nd, or better yet, 3rd order highpass for your chosen mid. Power demands decrease as you go up in frequency, the woofer will be handling the majority of it, the mid shouldn't have to be all that beefy when you cross it higher like that. I think your first one probably died having to take more power crossed as low as it was.

+1. Avoid less than 2nd order low passing, or less than 3rd order high passing.

The woofer will only handle 450w. Crossed at 750Hz a mid driver wouldn't see more than 80w. And IMO if you're not using a driver that goes flat to at least 5kHz you're spinning your wheels. Whomever originally cobbled this thing up screwed up the works. Don't repeat the same mistakes.

It seems the first rendition of this cab was being viewed somewhat like a sub/top rather than a 2way bass cab, giving up a lot of potential output in the lowmids that works good for bass and stressing the high side driver way too much. Steeper filters may have saved it but you'll end up with a much nicer cab after the re-design anyway.
