100W head = too much for bedroom practice?

There's nothing wrong w/ using a 100w head for bedroom practice. Usually, the tiny bedroom practice amps come with a headphones out / aux in, so you can practice in quiet &/or along with tunes, if need be. Since the Ashdown 100w mini-stack you referenced already has those, you have that covered. That being the case, you really can't lose by going for the mini stack. If it were a 100w head w/out those add'l features, depending on how/when you'd be using it, the 15w combo *may* have been the better option for a "bedroom practice amp", but not now.

I'm gonna go against the grain here. My Fender Frontman 15w guitar amp can easily reach shouting volume without farting out.

100w is a middle-ground kind of wattage. Not enough to cope with a full band, but way big enough for bedroom practice. Unless you're doing orchestral work, it probably wont hold its place in a live setting.

Ashdown has a bit of a cool factor, but I'd wonder if your practical sweet spot might be with a 100W combo from usual bass amp suspects Gallien Krueger, Ampeg, Acoustic, etc. That head/cabinet design seems like more of a novelty, IMO.

I have a Mesa Walkabout and a Ampeg SVT-410HE in my bedroom for practice...overkill no?

But really, you could have 1000 watts for bedroom practice, just turn it as loud as you like and roll with it. To me its get the gear you want. So you want a Ampeg SVT-810 and a SVT-CL for bedroom practice, fine by me. Your money, your rig, your choice.

My computer room rig is an SVT and 810

The recommendation for a 100W amp is probably correct, especially if you are only going to buy one amp.

But I have to disagree with those who say there is absolutely no use for a small bedroom amp. I bought a Crate B10XL 10W amp for use in a dorm when I was in college, and it was perfect. Plenty loud with good sound and small enough to stash in the closet or under the bed, didn't take up lots of space and it was easy to move when I moved. I still have it today and when I visit with family my SIL likes to play acoustic guitar so I bring my bass and throw the Crate in the vehicle with me. If it didn't sound okay I wouldn't stick up for it, but I like the sound I get. I also drag it out on my back deck when the weather's nice for a little outdoor jamming.

I agree wholeheartedly. I agree so much that I'm going to get one of those new little Ampeg BA108's for $100...25w, single 8"...got this little Sunday gig I could actually use it on, playing upright in a ltitle restaurant where all I need is to get a little bit louder than the upright itself. I wouldn't get one if I didn't already have amps 100w and over, but it's a nice little addition.
