I always liked the bit in Life, The Universe and Everything that says:

"'That's a pity', said Arthur. 'I'd like to hear what he has to say. Presumably he would know what the Question to the Ultimate Answer is. It's always bothered me that we never found out.'
'Think of a number,' said the computer, 'any number'"

Taken out of context, it implies that the question is actually "Think of a number, any number". Not technically a question, I know, but when you pair it with the Answer: "Think of a number, any number. 42" it becomes a rather elegant insinuation that life, the universe, and everything is really just a random coincidence.
