12" Speakers for 2x12 Cab

Hi all,

I've seen a lot of opinions on 4x10 and 1x15 (or 2 1x15) cabs, but I'm wondering what opinions there are about using 12" speakers?

The reason why I ask is that I have a 2x12 Hiwatt closed-back cab for guitar with Fane speakers, but since I'm not using it, I was thinking about just purchasing some Fane bass speakers for this cab without doing anything funny to the cab to accommodate for 10"'s or one 15". I think Fane produces some 12" bass speakers.

I'll be using is a 225-300 watt tube amp for these.

Since it is a cabinet design for higher frequencies, my guess is its not gonna be a good enclosure for bass.
